An original photograph of gauchos (Aregentine cowboys) on their horses, wading through a river, by the noted Argentine photographer PEDRO LUIS RAOTA (1934-1996), signed by him in marker at lower right. The work measures 17 1/4" by 12 3/4" (24" by 20" in metal frame). The paper has an unusual texture, seen best in the photos of the signature area...

PAIR of gouache paintings of Italy, one apparently showing the island of Ischia in moonlight, at the entrance to the Gulf of Naples, the other a coastal scene of the mainland, neither signed, circa 1900. The Ischia work measures 6 1/2" by 9 3/4", the other 7" by 10 3/4" (12" by 14 3/4" and 12 1/2" by 16" framed----the frames slightly different). Such paintings were popular souvenirs that went home with Grand Tour visitors at the turn of the century...

Endowed with a strong and very independent character, he prefers to train himself by making copies of paintings, in particular from the Louvre museum. A talented designer and engraver, he contributed to numerous illustrated periodicals such as Le Courrier français (1895-1896), La Critique and Le Rire (1899-1912). He is the author of original lithographs...

This is an example of the large chromolithograph of the Grand Canyon, made after the famous painting by Thomas Moran, for the Santa Fe Railroad. The work measures 23 2/3" by 35" and the pleasing wood frame is 2 3/8" on a side. This example of this well-known print is offered in as-is condition, with most notably an approximately 1" across hole at lower left, and a number of areas of missing paper, showing in the images as white areas...

Large unframed oil on canvas painting of three central figures chatting, other figures in the distance, 24" by 36", painted in a highly impressionist manner, and signed at lower left with the familiar "Buenaventura" signature. The artist is either ALFREDO BUENAVENTURA (1942-1982) or his uncle CESAR BUENAVENTURA (1922-1983). I cannot be certain because their works often look very similar, as do their signatures, and in this case the beginning of the signature is difficult to discern...

Grace Carpenter HudsonBorn in Potter Valley near Ukiah, CA on Feb. 21, 1865- 1937. It is oil on fine silk laid on board, 14" by 14" and signed G Hudson lower left circa 1895-1905. It is in overall good condition with minor frame rubbiing on bottom left. Charming Longmen folk-art painting titled “Little Mountain Village” by Tan Chifa (1939-2004) dated summer of 1990. Signed in black ink at the lower right and with the red seal of the Chinese Longmen Farmer Painting Association below. In the 1950s and 1960s, peasant paintings were used for political propaganda to promote and glorify the labor and prosperity of workers and peasants...

Apparently unsigned watercolor on heavy paper painting of an arid landscape in the American Southwest, including a distant mountain, barbed wire fencing at a dirt crossroads, and fading evening clouds, 14" by 17 1/2" as framed in a faux burl frame. When I first saw the image I was reminded of some of the watercolor art of Peter Hurd---the memorable scenes he painted of New Mexico. There is no evidence that he painted this one, but perhaps the artist was inspired by Hurd's imagery...

Bio: Cornelius McCarthy (1935-2009) was among the top painters of the male form working in Britain in the second half of the twentieth century. Trained at Goldsmiths College in the 1950's, where he came under the formative influence of Sam Rabin...

A Very Rare/Fine Japanese Woodblock Print by Tadashi Nakayama (1927 -): Japan, dated 1961, with original frame. Ptinted with metallic embellishments, of red and silver squares with black top (?), signed in pencil T. Nakayama, edition numbered 16/50, on the bottom margin, with a professional/original frame. This is a very unusual print by this artist. It’s in very good condition with color and impression, without any noticeable defects but not examined its back...

Ink drawing with some pencil outlining visible, subject an idyllic northern lake bordered by tall spruce or pines, a ti-pi with Indian at center left, a canoe plying the waters at center distance, signed at lower left "Leb-Wendell", 7" by 9 3/4", 12 1/2" by 15" as framed. At first I though this an etching but close up inspection reveals it to be actually an ink drawing with fine detail. One can see the pencil outlining and guide lines placed by the artist...
