This is a very fine etching with drypoint by French artist Edgar Chahine (1874-1947) The title of this work is: "Mademoiselle Delvair de la Comedie Francaise,", it was created and printed in 1901, pencil signed lower left border. The image measures 18X11 1/2 inches. Printed on a medium weight wove type paper. This image appears in the Tabanelli catalog as image no. 73. It also appeared in the Holme's book, Modern Etching and Engraving, published 1902.

A vintage Chinese bronze Buddhist Bodhisattva in a serene pose holding an object in his hands. He is incised with scrolls and good luck symbols, crowned and bejeweled, sitting atop a lotus encircled base. The large size makes an imposing presence and companion.

Condition is generally good though tarnish, patina losses, and small damage exists at the back of the sculpture where it meets the base from which the sculpture is separate...

An interesting painting of a rather ruddy-faced gent, in a dark jacket with a striped yellow waistcoat, holding a book at the bottom center. The reverse of the case has blue and yellow striped fabric and a lock of hair, all under beveled glass which has worn reverse painted gilding. The gilded metal case is 2" by 1 7/8".
