An interesting painting of a brick church dramatically positioned in a rural landscape with distant mountains, the year 1898 appearing on the lintel over the door, signed at lower right corner "K. Shuck". Online research shows there was a Kenneth M. Shuck associated with the Springfield Museum of Art, having served as its second director, between 1951 and 1976. A 1954 photo online shows him standing in front of a Thomas Hart Benton painting. This may be by that individual...

A truly beautiful circa 1890 print of elegant Parisians strolling past and perusing the famous Bouquiniste bookstalls along the banks of the Seine River, not signed in plate nor in pencil but certainly by a listed or even important and well-known artist. To date, reverse image searches and other internet research have, frustratingly, not revealed the identity of that artist. There are no watermarks...

Original white line woodcut (aka Provincetown woodblock or woodcut) by Virginia Bill (USA, 1865-1960), circa 1930. In excellent condition. Archivally matted and framed. This work is signed by the artist lower right and is titled lower left "Portuguese Jewish Cemetery 11th Street N.Y." This is a view of an ancient Sephardic cemetery in New York, or rather of what was left of it after most of it was destroyed by road construction...

Oil on canvas, unframed, 30" by 40", the subject large boulders and rocks surrounding a small pool of water, executed in a photo-realist style in muted colors, signed at lower left with the artist's name, copyright symbol, and date 1985, and titled "Slow Water" and signed again on the reverse. This is a relatively early work by the noted Twentynine Palms, California contemporary artist and muralist CHUCK CAPLINGER...

A PAIR of watercolor paintings of classic scenes of Montmartre, each 8 3/8" by 10 3/8" (and each 15" by 17 1/2" as identically framed), each signed at lower left by French artist AMEDEE PREVOST. One work features the white Sacre Coeur church dome in the distance, figures and an artist completing the scene, the other work featuring a street easel artist painting a picturesque old house...

Oil on unusual crimped/bent metal tin panels, each extensive landscape painting measuring 5 1/2" by 9 1/2" and about 1 1/2" margin all around, each signed at bottom in red "H. ROUX". These are beautifully painted works of the nineteenth century by an apparently listed Swiss artist. The pair has some scratches and small abrasions in a few spots, and one has a scratched area at top extending into the gold margin; but, these flaws are not so significant as to affect the overall impression...

PAIR of old watercolor paintings of ceramic and metal objects on table tops in an interior, the first 21" by 28" framed, the second 19" by 24" framed, the larger work signed at lower right by European (French?) artist Joanny Rec. These are beautifully executed fine watercolors in excellent condition. I have found little information on the artist after an extensive online search. The name suggests a Belgian or French nationality, I would think, but I would not rule out another...

A Hand Colored Botanical Print Portraying Gladiolas. The Artist is the Victorian Jane Webb Loudon (1807-1858), and the Print is from the book “The Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Bulbous Plants” (plate 12), published in 1841 by Day and Haghe London, Lithographer to Queen Victoria. The print is triple matted and elegantly framed. Dimensions; 19.5" x 18". Excellent condition. See also item number 601985 (1542B).

Warren Davis, American, 1865-1928, "Naiad". This is a very fine etching by Warren Davis, image size 7 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches, printed in an edition of 150, signed within the plate, with the title and edition in pencil below the image. This etching is in pristine condition, printed on a cream colored watermarked Rives paper with ample margins...

Joseph Pennell, American, 1857-1926, "The Square". This 1920 etching by the American artist Joseph Pennell measures 9 3/4 x 7 7/8 inches, pencil signed, edition of probably 50 proofs, cat: Wuerth 740. Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography. Pennell was known for his continued experimentation with technique and style, producing cityscapes, landscapes and marine scenes...

Maria Ada Gianni 1873-1956 Italian This is a fine original gouache painting by Italian artist Maria Gianni. The scene is the Bay of Naples with Mt Vesuvius in the background. The painting is signed lower left. The image measures 5X12 1/2 inches and came to us in what appears to be the original early frame which measures 8X16 inches.

ONE OF TWO WORKS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP--Abstract oil on canvas painting, 32" by 25 1/2", unframed, dated on reverse "1996/97", signed there by noted American 20th century contemporary artist CASS SHAW. Shaw, based currently in the Los Angeles area, has had wide exposure of her work, the exhibition history in the United States and France going back to the 1970's. This is one of two works by the artist in my shop (they were acquired at the same time)...
