A nicely executed good-sized pastel drawing, 19" by 23" (24" by 28" framed), the subject a fast-looking high-end sailboat off a coastline, manned by a number of figures. I would estimate the age as circa 1960's or 1970's. Framed behind detail-dulling non-glare glass, which was common during those years. Frame shows wear, drawing is in excellent condition. Signature "Mather" is at lower left.

Engraving with hand coloring, 4 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mat, 9 3/4" by 12 3/4" in interesting old framing, the work trimmed on all sides, including the title "The Beverley Shore", after the important nineteenth century American artist JOHN FREDERICK KENSETT (1816-1872). This watercolor likely hails from Myanmar (Burma), as the name is commonly encountered in that nation. This might be the Irrawaddy River that winds through the country...

There is an askart listing for the name but an internet search has yielded little information; apparently he had some connection to New York so was an individual of Japanese ancestry working in America. A vintage woodcut print in black with touches of yellow and red in the windows of the picturesque seaside structures, unsigned, titled in the image "NOEL", white speckles (sprayed?) indicating snowflakes, 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed. The scene resembles Maine villages such as Port Clyde or Castine. Likely a work from that region, circa 1940's, possibly 1930's. I opened up the backing and found no further information.

I thought it might read "Louise Brumback", but that artist died in 1929...
