Born the son of artist John Rabone Harvey, Herbert Johnson Harvey was a London based painter and etcher known for his portraits. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the provinces.

This is a large and impressively painted (28 1/4" by 47" just the painting alone) oil on canvas signed at lower left "J. Mathey 21", showing an early autumn landscape with patches of snow and forest depicted in an impressionist manner. The artist, JACQUES MATHEY (1883-1973), was the son of French artist Paul Mathey (1844-1929)...

An early (early 20th century) unframed watercolor of the brick buildings of San Francisco's Chinatown, unsigned, 11 1/2" by 7 1/2", from the collection of a longtime San Francisco art dealer. The work includes a number of figures in traditional Chinese clothing, along with the ornamental grillwork of some balconies overlooking the street in these post-Gold Rush buildings. The artist could be any number of listed artists, or perhaps, a talented amateur. There is light foxing in the sky.

Etching or aquatint in colors, 18 1/2" by 23" (28" by 31 1/2" as framed), titled at lower left margin "Les Vieux (???)" and signed at lower right margin by the noted French artist PAUL EMAIL LECOMTE (1877-1950). Lecomte was born to an artist father and an art-nourishing environment. After attending the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and study under Fernande Cormon, he went to work for the government...

Charcoal on paper, 7 7/8" by 11 3/8" (14 1/4" by 17 7/8" as framed), not signed above the mat (not opened up), but bearing a 1968 label on the reverse from ACA American Master Gallery of La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles, providing the name of the artist, with the words below stating "From the estate by K Moskowitz". This is a rather typical subject for the artist, EUGENE HIGGINS (1874-1958), who is today grouped with the Ash Can school of American art of the first half of the twentieth century...

The title is: A Mirage, it was one of his Venetian series, created and printed in , 1928 in an edition of only 76. This image measures 11 13/16X14 3/8 inches. An original marine etching by the British artist, Arthur Briscoe, measuring 13 5/8 x 7 7/8 inches, ink signed and numbered, 59/75, cat: Laver 25. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast...
