Three(3) Japanese Salt and Pepper Shakers, shape of Sweet Pepper, Ca. 1940, 1 1/2" high, 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" wide, with Cork stoppers and marked "Japan" in red on the bottom. The condition is good.

A Zohiko covered soup bowl. Colorful leaf decoration sparsely applied on black ground with almost iridescent effect with gold and silver maki-e and red details. Zohiko mark in silver lacquer inside the bowl's foot rim. 20th century. Bowl diameter 4 9/16 inches (11.59 cm). Kashigata (wooden sweet mold,) kanji characters "Daiou" (Great) motif; Japan, early 20th C. 2-piece Paddle-type mold to make 5 sweets. L.16.75"(42.5cm) x W.2.375"(6cm) x H.1"(2.5cm.) "Daiou" could be symbolic of any type of "greatness," but was most likely a reference to the country during the Japanese Imperial era. Sweet molds, “kashigata,” have been a part of confectionary culture around the world. Well-known examples in Asia come from Japan, China, Korea, and Indonesia...

Early Showa (1930s) Japanese obidome (sash ornament) of round shape with engraved flowers. Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well. Very nice work, beautiful patina. Metal fitting on the back with two loops for an obi cord. Diameter 1 1/8 inches.

Vintage Japanese lacquer kogai style kanzashi - a hair pin - with lacquer decoration of flowers in a stream. Kogai type kanzashi consists of two sticks featuring a design on each end, which tend to be wider than the centre. Kogai resemble sheathed swords, with one end being removable in order for it to be placed in the hairstyle. Wonderful lacquer work, in very good vintage condition. Length assembled 4 1/4 inches. Part of East Coast Japanese hair items collection.

A hand carved wood totem pole on a round base, made for the tourist trade at mid-century, no signature, 7" high and 6 1/4" widest point on the wings, with original yellow sticker on the back from Indian Craft Shoppe, 905 Government Street, Victoria, British Columbia. There is a little chip off the tip of one wing, otherwise is in good condition.

4 pieces of Nara Uchiwa whose history dates back to Nara period (A.D.710~794). It began as manual side line work of the Shinto priest of Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. The traditional motifs (Tenpyo Moyo) such as peonix, deer, kylin (imaginary animal), dragon, Parrot etc. These four (originally five) were made by Ikeda Gankodo which is only existing maker of it in Nara. The pattern "Kanze-mizu" is derived from the crest of the Noh drama player Kanze Dayu which is whirl of water. He was the founder of Kanze style Noh (15th century). Chinese carved Ivory Ram's Head clasp, consisting of Ram's Head and oval ring, 2 long 7/8" wide, 3/8" deep-Ram's Head, and 7/8" x 5/8" wide, 1/8" thick-oval ring, made in "Hong Kong" label, imported to US prior to 1980. The oval ring goes over the Ram's Head to close the necklace, connect with string to other side of Ram's head, there are two(2) holes to connect together and string the oval ring next to beads of your choice.
