Chinese vintage belt hook carved in the form of a dragon's head curled to face a crouching chimera with scrolling vines in his jaws. On top of the chimera's back is a bat and coin representing good fortune. The jadeite is very beautiful in color and ranges from a pale, almost white starting at the head of the dragon and gradates to a bright orange color with a steak of bright green in the center. The Manhattan pattern was produced by Hocking Glass Company from 1939 to 1941. Its clean, deco lines makes it very popular with today's collectors. Although this isn't listed with Manhattan in the catalogs, Hocking produced this cookie jar as a 'go with' item for the pattern. It was made during the same time period and sold along with Manhattan. Excellent condition. See my other listings for more in this pattern.

The Manhattan pattern was produced by Hocking Glass Company from 1939 to 1941. Its clean, deco lines makes it very popular with today's collectors. Offered here is the center insert for the relish set in excellent condition. The center insert was only made in clear, even though the triangle side inserts come in crystal, ruby and pink. Japanese black lacquered on woven Bamboo Trunk, with red lacquered wooden frame on the bottom, Ca. 1920's, 14 1/2" high, 27 1/4" x 15 1/4" wide, two(2) black iron lock compartment on the side and large handles in front and back and corners are wrapped around with black iron. Wooden stretchers on the bottom to support for strength, blue rice paper lining inside the top and the bottom. Some black lacquer loses on the surface and corners are worn.

The Chinese excel at modeling horses, and this example is not exception. It is a soapstone carving of a horse running wild, its mane flying in the wind. The greyish-white stone is punctuated with russet tinting. Excellent condition, and mounted on grey-white plinth. Dimension: 8 1/4" l

Japanese miniature black Raku Tea Bowl or Chawan in signed wooden box, Ca. 1980, the tea bowl measures 1 3/8" high, 2 1/8" diameter-top rim, impressed mark "Raku near the bottom and also top and inside the box, enclosed the paper information of the area of the kiln and how they made. Kiln crack on the white clay area where the impressed mark is located, but not on the black glaze inside the bowl.

A finely sculpted bust of a young man with exceptional patina of finely blended earth and bronze pigments. Physical condition is superb, but a small amount of finish has worn around the left eye and on the top of the head exposing a green substrate, yet harmonious with the earthen finish. Signed on the back of the neck. We have been unable to decipher the signature; yet the work speaks well for the unidentified artist. Dimension: 13" h

A difficult wood with which to work, ebony is also an exceedingly attractive one as this hand carved crocodile attests with its exotic and realistic hide. Bone teeth and eyes complete the sculpture. These figures date from the early to mid 20th C, possibly of Indian origin, and are frequently found with lost eyes and teeth, making this one a choice specimen.
