Large Horse Head Festival Mask from Orissa, an area of India renowned for centuries for its fine sculpture. A beautiful, colorful and large example, 2 feet (61cm) in height. From the collection of Irwin Hersey, renowned author on Asian and primitive art, and publisher of the Primitive Art Newsletter in the 1970s. Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs.

Old Chinese carved stone birdbath. Made in 2 pieces that fit together nicely, the bottom is a Buddhist lion. The bowl has vague dragon like carving around the exterior. No condition issues. A mirror pair of 7.25" vases, enameled in deep red enamel over metal bodies incised in a pattern of birds in a bamboo grove. They are marked "Made in Japan" on their silvered bases. Top rims are copper colored, the counter-enamel is deep red. The pair has no chips, hairlines or repairs.

Ancient mask of oval flat form, with protruding forehead and nose, slit eyes, small open rectangular mouth showing teeth. Only one large hole on each side to attach the mask, and smaller holes around the mask probably to represent hair and beard. Wood, with remnants of kaolin colouring. Africa, Gabon, Fang ethnic group. Height: 32 cm. The mask is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Tiny accidents, otherwise very good condition.

Unlike many of the pieces in the genre of Kyo-ware, this tea bowl is decidedly demure in appearance. Milky, flowing glaze pools in places along a backdrop of ivory and coral pink sides, contrasting nicely with the rough, unrefined clay of the base. In the center of the kodai is a decorative swirl pattern reminiscent of the yin and yang.

The potter, Kanpu Kawanabe (1873 - 1947) was born into a family of weavers but went on to be trained in many of the arts related to tea ceremony...

Pair of Korean black lacquer over brass vases with mother-of-pearl inlay. The brass is re-purposed from unused artillery shells and the vases are heavier than one would expect. One of the rim looks a little irregular, but the were purchased in Japan, as is, in the first half of the 20th Century. They measure about 7 inches high.

A vintage mid century modernist cup or goblet by William Spratling in Ebony with sterling balls around a sterling base and sterling inlaid disks.

Measures 4 5/8" high and 2 1/4" across. Marked with William Spratling Taxco Mexico around the conjoined Script 'WS'. This mark was used between 1951-67.

This is a unique bulldog walking stick. The handle of the stick is ivory and the bulldog on the end is metal. There is a very thin silver collar that separates the shaft from the ivory. There is a good amount of detail on this dog and the rosewood shaft is in good condition. The ferrule is ivory as well. This stick measures 35 1/4" x 5" x 1 1/4". The handle measures 1 1/2" x 5" x 1 1/4". The ferrule measures 1" and the collar 1/16".

Suda Kyochu was a pupil of Seison Maeda (1885 - 1977), one of the greatest contemporary Japanese painters and one of the founders of the Nihonga movement. Signed and with original folder. Japanese Ko Kutani ware ceramic bowl with classic enamel colors of green, yellow, purple and dark blue. The theme of the bowl is the 3 Friends of Winter or Shochikubai (plum blossom, bamboo, and pine tree) in colored enamel against a gray ground in the center. The recessed foot has 2 character mark Fuku, meaning "good fortune" or "happiness".
