A Japanese lacquer bowed top box with portrait of a Kabuki actor - presumably named in gold lacquer and the role of Daihachi named in a lustrous iron color. All slightly raised work, the portrait is in gray, black, red, flesh tone, browns and gold. Lines including pattern and folds in the figure's attire and hair in his coiffure and sideburns cleanly defined with raised work. Wonderful antique Japanese okimono of the mythical characters Ashinaga and Tenaga. The two friends live on the beach and survive on fish. Tenaga catches them with his long arms while sitting on the back of Ashinaga who wades out into the water with his long legs. Carved with great detail and whimsy out of boxwood. Meiji Period (1868-1912).

A Ridgway Salt Glaze Relief Molded Stoneware Pitcher; Signed in Imprint "Published by W Ridgway & Co. Hanley October 1, 1835". There is a Pewter Lid on the Beige Body, with the Figures Telling the Story of Tam O'Shanter, from the Robert Burns (1759-1796) poem. I Shows a pub scene to one side, and an equestrian scene to the other. Dimensions; 9" high. Height 9 inches. The pitcher is in excellent condition, but the pewter lid is loose, but not damaged.
