Japanese Sake cup - Hagi ware with box - Beautiful blue glaze work of Seigan Yamane. The cup has the maker's signature mark stamped on the bottom. Height: 2.0" (5 cm). Diameter: aprox 2.5" (6.5 cm). Condition: The cup has a chip in the edge cover by the glaze, apparently made during the manufacturing process (please, see photos).

An antique Satsuma figural group of a prone bull with a guardian. The bull with crackled cream ground, gilt noseguard and retaining rope and with polychrome painted and gilt backcover. The young man in a gilt and multicolor painted traditional Japanese garment resting on the animal while holding a book in his hand. 11.5" long, 6" high. An exceptional piece.

This is a very special example of Japanese Cloisonne. The workmanship and elegant form are what makes this piece so special. This vase was acquired from one of the world's greatest cloisonne collections. It measures 12 inches tall. Great overall condition but it does has a very tiny enamel flake (See last image) on the back shoulder and minor pitting. It is not signed.

The painting depicted court musicians playing divine music called Bugaku. Bugaku is a Japanese court music accompanied by dancing. Here one of the players plays shen (a bamboo instrument first produced in China in 7th century) and the other one sounds a massive drum with mitsudomoe crest (three comma-shaped figures in a circle). Shallow form with brilliant turquoise color. The cavetto is molded with thirty-two chrysanthemum petal-form flutes that appear convex on the back-side of the dish and encircle the flattened base. A “China” mark is needle-incised on the base. Very good condition. Acquired 25 years ago in North Carolina from an estate that was involved with the tobacco trade in China. It is rare for a large, delicate flat-rimmed dish, such as this one, to survive without damage.

A Japanese lacquer bowed top box with portrait of a Kabuki actor - presumably named in gold lacquer and the role of Daihachi named in a lustrous iron color. All slightly raised work, the portrait is in gray, black, red, flesh tone, browns and gold. Lines including pattern and folds in the figure's attire and hair in his coiffure and sideburns cleanly defined with raised work. Nobori banners, carps, warrior's Yoroi and Kabuto helmets, samurai dolls and swords were all a part of the display used for Boy's Day (renamed Children's Day) on May 5th in Japan. They reflect the parents' wish to inspire their sons in manliness, discipline, bravery and the honor codes which are associated with them.

Originally, nobori were used on the battlefield to identify the troops; some were to show the warriors where their taisho (general) was, others were used to shift the troops. ...

A pair of 10 inch tall Pairpoint candlesticks in colorless glass with amethyst additions. The sticks are decorated in the classic “Waterford” pattern and are identified as shape F1622 Florentine candlesticks in the 1915 - 1920 company literature as illustrated in Padgett’s “Pairpoint Glass.” There is no damage to either candlestick.

Great example of a Durand champagne glass with ruby red cup and foot joined by an ambergris stem. The cup, stem and foot are nicely ribbed and measure 6 inches tall. The cup is 4 3/8 inches in diameter and the foot is 3 1/16 inches in diameter. The foot has a rolled rim and has a small polished pontil mark. This example is pristine.
