A European shape porcelain tea caddy painted in underglaze blue depicting houses and pavillions in a river landscape. This item was made in Jingdezhen (southern China) for export to Europe, circa 1760-1780, during the reign of the Qianlong emperor. For a similar example please see John Ayers "The Chinese Porcelain Collection of Marie Vergottis", page 76. Condition: there is an old 3cm hairline on the shoulder and a minute chip to the one corner of the same shoulder (please view enlargements 6 & 7); no further damages and no restoration. 11cm (4.3inches) high; 9cm (3.5inches) wide; 4.5cm (1.75inches) deep.

青花庭院风景图案茶叶罐,作于中国景德镇,为1760-1780年间即清乾隆时期的针对欧洲的外销瓷。

品相:肩部有一处三厘米的冲缝和一处小磕(见图6和图7),无其他损伤或修复。

A white porcelain "Blanc-de-Chine" Buddhist Lion incense stick holder in similar style to the larger Guardian Lions which are frequently to be found at the entrances to Buddhist temples. These were probably originally made for domestic home altars and were among the first items to be exported to Europe from China as decorative objects. This item was made in the kilns of Dehua, Fujian Province, South China ,circa 1640-1660, during the middle of the 17th Century. For a very similar example please see catalogue # 90 in "Blanc de Chine - Porcelain from Dehua a catalogue of the Hickley Collection, Singapore" by Rose Kerr & John Ayers. Condition: there are cracks on two sides of the sqare base, one with an old re-glued triangular section; no damages or losses to the lion itself and no restoration. 16.5cm (6.5inches) high.

A baluster shaped vase painted in exceptionally vibrant shades of under glaze cobalt blue depicting stylized peony flowers and flying insects within shaped panels. There is an artemesia leaf mark within a double ring on the base. This item was made in China during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). Condition: there is no cover and there is a Y-shaped hairline on the neck which forks 1cm from the rim and does not extend to the body (please view enlargements 6 & 7); no further damages and no restoration. 23.5cm (9.2 inches) high.

A balluster shaped vase and cover painted with "famille rose" enamels depicting a lady holding a fan with two boys in a garden setting. On the base is painted the iron red four character mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795) but this item was made later, in the early 20th Century, during either the closing years of the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908) or during the Republic period (1911-1949). Condition: there are minor losses to the enamels but no chips or cracks and no repairs or restoration. 25cm (9.9inches) high.

A rare late Ming Dynasty thickly potted jar decorated in underglaze blue with a key-fret pattern around the neck; on the shoulder a Kraak style diaper pattern encloses four circular panels, each containing a fruiting peach branch; above the foot are stylized breaking waves; the large central area is painted on each side with nine boys, at leisure, in a garden setting. "Hundred Boys" jars with very similar decoration are to be found dating to the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) but this jar was made later, probably for export, circa 1610-1625 during the reign of either the Wanli or the Tianqi emperor.
Condition - there is fritting (production glaze loss) to the rim and there are chips to the foot rim; there are two cracks to the rim which are probably firing (production) cracks and there are various cracks and glaze imperfections to the body but there are no repairs and there has been no restoration.
19cm (7.5inches) high; 19cm (7.5inches) diameter. Weight - 1.5kg (3lb 5oz).

AA carved soapstone figure depicting a reclining Scholar; holding a fan in his right hand. This item was possibly made as an object for the Scholar's table and was made in China in the Qing dynasty, probably during the second half of the 19th Century (circa 1850-1900). Condition: a 2.5cm area appear to have been chipped away (in front of the fan and below his right knee)- please view enlargements 5, 6 & 7; and there are small spots of red paint in places. 6.3cm (2.5 inches) high; 7.6cm (3 inches) long.

An unusually large "Ivory" coloured moulded Bakelite (Urea Formaldehyde) wall plaque designed by William McMillan RA. These plaques were manufactured by De la Rue Plastics and were presented by the War Office to local Savings Committees in appreciation of their success in "Salute the Soldier Week" in 1944. Some are still to be found in public buidigs throughout the U.K.. For a similar commemmorative wall plaque please view cat. no. EPH 4622 in the collection of the Imperial War Museum, London. Condition: exceptionally good - one small 1.5cm production flaw to the left of the rifle but not visible on the reverse. 58cm (22.8 inches) high; 35cm (13.75 inches) wide.

A rare "famille rose" dragon and phoenix decorated bowl with an inscription dedicating it as a 60th birthday gift from Ma Tao Yu to Xiong Gong - otherwise known as Chen Zhao Ying (1888-1977), who was a senior military leader of the Guo Min-dang (Kuomintang) between the years 1911 to 1932 and who was very close to Sun Zhong-shan and Jiǎng Jièshí (Chiang Kai-shek). From 1944 to 1948, Chen Zhao Ying was the chief of the Jiangxi Province Guo Min-dang Party committee and the minister of Audit for Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces. The bowl, dedicated as an advance birthday gift, is dated Autumn, 1946. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.4cm (4.8 inches) diameter. 1946年 民国 龙凤团纹祝寿碗 一件粉彩龙凤团纹祝寿碗。为一名为马陶余的同乡晚辈送与时任皖赣监察使的陈肇英60大寿之礼。上书:“雄公监察使六秩华诞誌庆”、“寿世寿心”、“乡晚马陶余敬献——丙戌年秋月“。 品相:完好。无损伤,无修复。直径12.4厘米。 注:陈 肇英(1888—1977),字雄夫,浙江浦江古塘村人。浙江省浦江县中山中学创办人。 辛亥革命时,参加浙联军光复南京战役。1916年,发动浙江独立,反对袁世凯和浙江都督朱瑞,并赴上海见孙中山。1918年,通电拥护西南护法政府,任援 闽浙军第一师中将师长兼前敌总指挥。次年,与蒋介石结为把兄弟。1922年,任以孙中山为非常大总统的护法政府参谋。1926年1月,被选为中国国民党第 二届中央执行委员会候补委员。蒋介石四一二反革命政变后,递补为国民党中央执行委员,连任至第六届。1928年起,任国民政府立法院立法委员,后兼立法院 军事委员会委员长。1934—1942年间,任闽浙监察使。1935年起,兼任中国国民党福建省党部主任委员。1944年,改任中国国民党江西省党部主任 委员、皖赣监察使。1948年任监察院监察委员。1949年6月去台湾,曾兼任中国国民党中央纪律委员会委员、中央评议委员等。著有《八十自述》。

A carved blown moulded glass snuff bottle painted on the inside with a mountain landscape and on the other side a garden scene with potted plants, lingzhi fungi and a weather sculpted rock. This item was made in China during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition: there is no stopper and there are flaws inside the clear glass neck which were possibly caused during the making of the aperture. 6.1cm (2.3 inches) high.

A small pair of finely potted U-shaped Chinese porcelain wine cups painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with stylized scrolls of flowering lotus above a band of Ruyi heads over a narrow foot. Above the lotus flower heads are eight Tibetan style Buddhist Lanca (Lantsa) characters. On each base of each, painted in under glaze blue within a double square, is the six character reign mark of the Ming dynasty Chenghua emperor (1465-1487) but these cups were made later, possibly in the early 20th Century during the Republic period (1911-1949). For a pair of Yongzheng Imperial wine cups with very similar under glaze blue decoration but bearing additional over glaze polychrome Doucai enamels please see Lot 203, Sotheby's Hong Kong, April 25, 2004. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 5cm (2 inches) high; 5.8cm (2.3 inches) diameter.

A Dayak sword - Mandau - with rattan bound deer antler handle in the form of a finely carved zoomorphic (possibly deer's) head. The iron blade is engraved with stylized scrolling vine decoration. This item was made (and used) during either the 19th or very early 20th Century. Condition: very good, but the sword is without its scabbard and the bade has seen much use, having many nicks to the cutting edge; also much of the decorative brass inlay to the blade is missing. A green and yellow soapstone carving entitled "Lion Building" (located in Shandong province) depicting a scene from the famous Song dynasty legend the The Water Margin ("Shui Hu Zhuan") in which Wu Song fights with and kills Ximen Qing who had previously killed Wu Song's brother so as to 'acquire' his wife. This item is carved in a style which was popular during the Cultural Revolution period (1966-1976) but the subject matter (and the fact that the carving bears the signature of the artist) suggests that it was made a little later, circa 1978 to 1982. 17cm (6.7 inches) high; 12cm (4.7 inches) long at the base.

A small Chinese porcelain vase delicately painted in fencai / famille rose enamels with a scene depicting two ladies on a river bank washing silk. The base carries an iron red four character Qianlong (1736 - 1795) reign mark but this vase was made later, in the early 20th Century, during the Republic period. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.5cm (5 inches) high.

A porcelain bowl painted with over glaze "famille rose" enamels depicting a flowering peony shrub issuing from a stylized blue rock. This item was made in China for export to Europe during the second quarter of the 18th Century. Condition: very good - there is a 1.7cm chip to the inside of the footrim; no other damages and no restoration. 14cm (5.5 inches) diameter; 6.5cm (2.6 inches) high.

A small French Impressionist style oil on board, entitled "London: Sunset at Hammersmith" by Italian born Piero Sansalvadore. Sansalvadore arrived in London, circa 1930, and started painting late in life. The majority of his pictures were produced during the 1930s and 1940s. Some of his paintings are on display at the Guidhall Art Gallery, London and four are in the Royal Collection, purchased by Queen Mary (the Queen Mother) in December 1938 from an exhibition at the Fine Art Society. Condition: there is minor paint loss to the top edge; un-retouched and not restored in its original (circa 1930s) frame. 9.5cm wide; 7.5cm (high)
