This is one of a group of moulded pottery tablets that we bought about twenty years ago. They are made from a relatively high-fired pottery and have a surprising amount of detail. They were made as amulets and votive offerings and were reported to have been excavated from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, where originally many would have been placed to ensure the success of the temple...

Sankampaeng pottery brown glazed jar.

Sankampaeng is a Northern Thai ceramic which kilns were found in Chiangmai province.

17th Century Japanese Standing Buddha. A rare and fine example from the early Edo Period. Carved of Poloma wood with a rich dark patina. Complete with Stand and Mandala. Rare pair of China, Chrysanthemum Bowls or dishes, China, for ritual purpose, Ming Dynasty, c. 15th. century AD.

Ritual low food bowls or dishes for a rich Ming dynasty tomb, shaped in relief after the Chrysanthemum flower with a glaze of torquise and olive colours. Quite rarely seen as a large pottery model!

Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period porcelain kendi with a compressed globular body and mammiform spout decorated on the globular body in underglaze cobalt blue with flowers and scrolling foliage. Leafy peaches and ribboned lozenges decorate the spout and a band around the shoulder. The tubular neck, which flares to a wide disk shaped mouth, is painted with a stiff leaf band. Excessively rare pair of cizhou jars representing rabbits. The elegance of the animals is surprising, the drawing is precise and fast, the artist has drawn his line without hesitation. Rabbits are alive. It is exceptional to find such models in pairs. Normal wear of some hundred years of use but no cracks, chips or gaps. No restoration or hidden defects...

Chinese Ming Dynasty Painted Pottery Mandarin Tile

This attractive pottery tile depicting a mandarin (Chinese official) was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). It is made from a dense, quite highly-fired grey pottery. The mandarin wears a flowing robe, belted across his waist, with his badge of rank in the centre of his chest. In his left hand is what appears to be a hu (audience tablet). This is a large green glazed Ming dynasty funerary figure modelled as a palaquin bearer or attendant. It stand on a step and waisted hexagonal plinth with six feet. The right hand and left hand of the palaquin bearer or attendant is seem to be holding onto a pole towards his chest with the long sleeve covering the arm, exposing only the hand...

Description:

A Houtien jade pendent was in flat cicada shape.
With original drilling holes at the tip for hanging, the jade piece was covered with unique black stone crust comparing to milky white tint of the pebble.
It was preserved in very good condition with one minute restoration to the lower right rim and some frets in a limited way.
They were caused from old age.

Date: Ming Dynasty, 15th/16th century.

A rare and beautiful Japanese KOZUKA KNIFE HANDLE of a by-knife that is part of a sword mounting. It is kept in a slot on the reverse side of a Kattana Scabbard, often with a matching Kogai. It depicts the Gatekeepers arm-wrestling, EDO PERIOD (1603-1868). Shakudo alloy with GOLD decorated appliqué of the Guardian Kings AGYO and UNGYO. Size: 9.5 cm x 1.4 cm.

A large and beautiful dish with a central bird on long legs and floral design in blue and white, China, Ming Dynasty, 16th. century.

Condition: Good Very fine, choice and intact with fine intact rim! Finely grazed (crackled) glaze and typical sandy base ring from the making. Nice deep colour for type.

The slash at the waist is unglazed, exposing a slightly redish clay.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Dish with Fish (Ex. Grahame Clarke collection)

This porcelain dish was made during the 15th century. It has rounded sides and a "hole-bottom" base. It is decorated inside with, although rather indistinct, a "red biscuit" fish amongst water weeds that are in underglaze blue.

Diameter 11.5 cm. There are some crackles to the glaze and the glaze to the underside has an "orange peel" effect with some kiln grit embedded within the glaze. There is no ...

Decorated with a foo dog in the center. W=12 cm. Early Ming 1368-1398. Condition : very good with a faint hairline 2 cm , no chips, cracks, or restorations.

Chinese carved toggle in natural material; depicts an adult monkey and baby; age lines and excellent patina; good condition

Two pieces of very nice and symbolic shard from the Ming dynasty. The first shard to the left, has a coin design in the centre of the bowl with the lotus lappet surrounding it. The second shard, to the right, shows a lotus flower in full bloom. The lotus is considered a scared flower to the buddhist - a symbol of purity and perfection. In general it is a symbol of summer and fruitfullness. So both shard has a very symbolic meaning to it.

Bronze Scroll weight of a seated monk, one of his legs folded underneath the other, his hands resting upon his upright knee, wearing a robe patterned with flower-like designs. Ming Dynasty, 17th century Size: 2.5" tall, 1.25" wide

A superb quality very large pottery figure of a male attendant or official, dating to the earlier Ming Dynasty, 1400-1500 AD.

The figure is placed on a high hexagonal plint and wears a fine two-colour blue and turquoise glazed robe. The unglazed areas have pigmented colors in red, black and white. Finely painted facial details.

The head is attachable as often seen on the largest figures from this period.

A very rare small box, made of embossed brass, lavishly decorated with various designs on its lid and body. On the lower part of its body the design is a series of "niches" containing effigies of deities and also the portrait in profile of an important person, probably a king. Superb dark-green and reddish patina. Tibetan characters beneath. Tibet, 17th century. Height: 3 3/8" (8,7 cm). il. Superbe patine.

A small bronze incense burner with four lion mask cabriole legs and twin Chilong dragon handles gripping a key fret decorated rim. The body is cast with a broad band of scrolling lotus. This item was made in China in the 17th Century during the late Ming or early Qing dynasty.

Large Sukhothai plate, 14th-16th century, with fish in under-glaze iron black and banded mottled decoration around rim and underside. Exposed spur marks and glaze has been compromised, especially on one side and some chipping to rim. Diameter: 11.50 inches; height: 2.50 inches.

Unusual circular russet iron jingasa, with 16 triangular riveted plates. The iron is flattened to a thin gauge for lightweight comfort. It sports a finial top and a hand mount ring to a silk cord decoration.
