A rare mirror black "famille noire" enamelled jar and cover depicting two birds perched on a branch of iron red flowering prunus blossom over green enamelled rockwork. A medium sized Imari bowl from the 19th Century. The bowl is of fine quality and has a rare, hand applied, overall brocade decoration. In the inside there is a garden scene and a golden hawk that are made to look like they are from a rolled out scroll. The bowl measures about 2 1/2" high x 8 1/2" in diameter, and it is in excellent condition. There is a little wear on the gold highlights. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

This is an ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1250 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 5/8” long (16 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup. It was chipped by the artisan maker, who then used glaze to lock the piece back in place when it was fired.

Superb Taisho Period C. 1915 Japanese tea ceremony bronze flower vase. Placed in the tokonoma of a Japanese Tea House with a single flower it evokes the essence of wab sabi and the soul of the tea ceremony. Lovely art deco bulbous shape with wave diaper on the base. 19th century marine netsuke in a form of a woven mat with a bunch of grapes with vines and leaves, and a snail exploring them. The piece is probably carved by a member of Asakusa school with characteristic detailing and staining. The netsuke is hollowed inside, so can be classified as ryusa type. Excellent carving, characteristic beautiful sheen to the surface, wonderful wear and patina. Length 1 1/2 inches.

A Southern Chinese or Vietnamese bowl, covered all-over with a pale celadon glaze. This bowl dates to the C14-15th; or before. Quite delicately potted; gently rising from it's low, unglazed, foot to a slightly everted rim. Diameter; 13.5 cm. Condition; In presentable condition wih nice glaze qulaity, there are a couple of small nibble to the underside of the rim, and also the the foot. More photos are available upon request.

This is an old and well done Japanese Satsuma box. The design has a wonderful contrast between the simplistic over glazed enamel water elements and the refined, highly detailed gold wheels. The inside is covered with a layer of gold. The box is not signed but we think it could have possibly come from the Makuzu Kozan studio because of its quality and uniqueness. A kozuka with gilt and silvered bronze decoration of a general's baton and banner on dark patinated bronze nanako ('fish roe' textured ground.) The utility knife handle with shakudo (a pickled gold and copper alloy) back and sides. Surfaces showing wear and slight distress from use but in fairly good and serviceable condition. Rare Japanese silk jacket with a woven scene from an old Edo period tale about a trickster tanooki (also known as raccoon dog or tanuki) and a nobleman or samurai who is holding a pipe. In excellent condition, the black silk is satin silk, fine and smooth.
