A classic bun-shaped Koro incense burner by Miyagawa Chozo pierced with Incense-clock-patterns enclosed in the rare original signed wooden box. It is 8.8 cm diameter, 7.5cm tall and is in excellent condition. The box contains a hand written note in old Japanese describing the origins of Makuzu-ware.
Miyagawa Chozo (1797-1860), also known as Chobei was born a direct descendant of Chokansai and would be the father to Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan I (1842-1916)...

A fabulous Rootwood stand of dark red hardwood with a web of interlacing root-legs beneath. It is 48 x 32 x 8 cm (19 x 12-1/2 x 3 inches) and is in overall fine condition, dating from the first half of the 20th century.

Rice bag made of fragments of hand-spun cotton with stripes, checks and katazome (stencil-resist-dye), all vegetable indigo and brown dye. The cord is hemp. The square cloth in the bottom is fine and beautiful katazome with "two cranes facing" motif. Kome-bukuro was used when people dedicated rice to temples or shrines. In excellent condition except for a few holes and mending patches. The latter half of the 19th to early 20th century. W:57cm, H:28cm, Bottom:30cm x 28cm.

An ancient Egyptian white steatite scarab, with finely engraved anatomical features such as clypeus, prothorax and elytra. The reverse is detailed with hieroglyphs, including the engraved depiction of a beetle scarab with the sun disk, a basket, a feather of Maat and a papyrus stem. The amulet is pierced longitudinally for suspension.

Antique Japanese Musha-ningyo doll of a samurai warrior, the hero Minamoto Yoshitsune. He is seated and wears an elaborate kabuto with dragon meadate. His quiver and arrows are strapped to his back and his two swords are intact. His clothing is made of silk brocade and his armor is metal and lacquer. Hanuman personifies ingenuity and faithfulness - his strength and courage helped Rama to defeat Ravana. Cast in Maharashtra, wonderful casting (see his body in strong S-shaped atibhanga flexion at the waist) and detailing, great patina. Height 2.5 inches.
