An antique Japanese Chobako (merchant box) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware. Upper carrying handle and hinged door that hides 4 drawers of varying sizes used by a merchant to store writing paper, receipts, money and calligraphy brushes.

Small statue of Green Tara, wearing diadem, necklace and dhoti, sitting "at ease" on a double lotus throne. Her right hand holds the "cintamani", the jewel which "grants wishes or satisfies all desires". Bronze, with fine green patina in the recesses. Tibet, 16th century or earlier. Height: 3 3/8" (8,5 cm). Strong erosion due to very old age, tiny losses at the base of the throne, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: Green Tara is seen as the Buddhist protector against all dangers.
19th century ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in drum shape made out of sections of rosewood and staghorn. Very pleasant to the touch, beautiful wear and patina. Diameter 0.65 inches.

Another historical masterpiece in the development of Japanese culture: grey Shino Chawan, distorted cylindrical shape - hanzutsu, covered with a whitish Shino glaze over an iron oxide engobe, resulting in a beautiful grey shino glaze, which partly turns to red shino (aka shino).
A decoration of a branch with a leaf and berries on the front and a criss cross grass pattern on the back has been incised into the engobe resulting in white shino colored lines...
Chinese Soapstone figure of Pu Tai, well carved on a wooden stand. The stone of warm pale brown colour, fading towards the base, darker on the back. With a deep glossy patina. 19thC. Ht.2 3/4" (7.0cm), L.3 3/8" (8.6cm), excluding stand. Condition: there is a flake 1 3/4" at the rear of the base, which from the wear could be contemporary with the carving. Otherwise excellent.
Fine annamese vietnamese blue and white charger, decorated with floral motif surrounded by clasic petal border on the center, classic scroll around rim. On the exterior, petal lappets enclose hanging scrolls. Unglazed base with thin iron brown wash. PERIODE : 15 th Century CONDITION : a chip on the foot rim, no cracks or hairlines and free from restorations. MEASURE : 38 cm diameter. 9 cm height.
An antique Japanese Jingasa with gradual domed top with black Urushi and a raised lacquer design of a flying dragon surrounding the top. Underside is red Urushi. Family crest in gold on top and bottom of helmet. Bronze ring Tama Buchi. Worn by the samurai class in feudal Japan, as well as their retainers and foot soldiers.
