The snuff bottle is in a moon flask shape with a footrim and a recessed base. One side of the snuff bottle show the pinkish flower of the lotus and on the other side it shows the large green leaf of the lotu's flower. On each side of the snuff bottle, there is a butterfly. On the side of the snuff bottle, the stem of the lotus flower is being tied up in a bundle witha blue and pink ribbon...

Offered for consideration, is a wonderful and rarely found, early 20th century, English, "DENTIST" sign in brass measuring 12 3/4ths inches wide x 7 inches high.

The sign advertises the office of "James H. Groom. Dentist.", and remains in fine condition with rich, deep-toned, original patina and some very minor warping due to its many years of age. The lettering is actually impressed into the surface and is painted black...

Frog on a water lily and a lotus root at the base. The whole is in bronze with a dark brown patina.

In the Japanese bestiary, the frog has a special place, carrying positive values. Both the frog and the toad, called kaeru, come back every year, no matter how far away they are from the pond where they were born. The word Kaeru is a synonym for "coming home". 19th Century Korean Black Lacquered Mirror Box with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay of a pair of cranes, representing longevity and marital bliss, and peaches of immortality and abundant and propitious floral and geometric patterns. As is usually the case, the mirror is replaced. 9 x 7.5 x 4.5 inches, 23 x 19 x 11.5 cm.

Chinese 19th Century Glazed Stoneware Shipwreck Jar

Many years ago we bought a small group of jars of this type. We were told they dated to the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and had been in storage, having several years earlier been recovered from a shipwreck off Thailand. To the base of each jar is written an inventory number (we were told around 200 of these jars were excavated but how accurate this is, we do not know)...

Description & Notes

This bowl bears a six-character Qianlong seal mark in iron red, but its shape and pattern suggests that it was made during the late 19th century Guangxu period...

Indonesian Minahasa Tribe ( South Sulawesi ) Belt Buckle ( 17th - 19th centuries or earlyer ) Silver , decorated with a temple and holy birds surrounded by flowers. L : 13,5 cm. It is one of the best examples of a collection of 14 pieces to be sold now.

This old Indo-Persian Bronze bowl has ornate repousse pattern and is heavily patinated with use and age. The upper rim edge has a few small chips from ages past. The bowl is 4.5 inches in diameter and about 2.3 inches high. The bowl is an artifact from the early 1800'S.

Set of 8 panels carved in a beautiful hardwood probably rosewood. They are very finely openworked with stylized dragons moving in scrolls. In the center a bone inlay. The cutouts as well as the details are very skilfully executed. Probably pieces of furniture. Probably china but perhaps vietnam. The largest panel measures 215mm. Bone inlays are missing.

An extremely rare gilt bronze folding sundial-compass. Enamel dial, details in glass beads. The metal is finely chiselled with elegant volutes and gilded in the oven using the technique of gold-mercury amalgam. Very beautiful thick gilding that has withstood wear and tear well over the centuries...

A Chinese, qingbai, lidded wine-ewer of a rectangular form with moulded floral decoration, and the handle in the form of a chilong; Yuan dynasty. Dimensions; 14.5cm long, 12cm tall. Condition; the glaze condition is very good. The lid has damaged and repaired. The end of the spout has been damaged and repaired. Apprximately 2cm of the mouth rim has been broken and repaired. There is a small chip to the mouth rim...

Ca. 1800s or earlier

The stone is a creamy tone with pale russet flecking mainly seen on the back. A darker brown veining can be seen on the lower leg. It is carved overall, including the underneath showing one leg folded under. The polish is an even soft gloss like that produced from years of handling. Good condition, with no chips or restorations.

Length: 1 ¾ in., Width: 1 3/8 in., Height: ¾ in.

A small lobed Arita porcelain bowl decorated with scrolling karakusa. The interior with the shochikubai, the three friends of winter. The base has a four-character Fuki Choshun, "good fortune and long life" mark. Late 18th or early 19th century.

Approximately 10.8 cm. Diameter. Perfect condition.

A baluster shaped vase painted in exceptionally vibrant shades of under glaze cobalt blue depicting stylized peony flowers and flying insects within shaped panels. There is an artemesia leaf mark within a double ring on the base. This item was made in China during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). Condition: there is no cover and there is a Y-shaped hairline on the neck which forks 1cm from the rim and does not extend to the body (please view enlargements 6 & 7); no further damage...

A bulbous vase finely painted in Famille rose enamels, the decoration depicting the eight horses of Mu Wang, the Queen Mother of the West. Four-character Qianlong mark in over-glaze blue to the base. Height "9/ 23 cm. Condition: severe damage and repair to the neck (cf. pics).

A superb pair of hanging scrolls depicting a group of Japanese beauties set in two seasons, spring and summer. The scroll is mounted in fine damask silk in the san-dan style. Unusual high quality scroll ends with reticulated scrolling vine silver covers. The scroll comes with a box inscribed: Ukiyoe shichiken mitate, which roughly translates to An ukiyoe painting arranged in the seven sages style. Age: Taisho Period Size: Each height 88.5" width 40"
