Offered for consideration, is a wonderful and rarely found, early 20th century, English, "DENTIST" sign in brass measuring 12 3/4ths inches wide x 7 inches high.

The sign advertises the office of "James H. Groom. Dentist.", and remains in fine condition with rich, deep-toned, original patina and some very minor warping due to its many years of age. The lettering is actually impressed into the surface and is painted black...

We were told they dated to the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and had been in storage, having several years earlier been recovered from a shipwreck off Thailand. Set of 8 panels carved in a beautiful hardwood probably rosewood. They are very finely openworked with stylized dragons moving in scrolls. In the center a bone inlay. The cutouts as well as the details are very skilfully executed. Probably pieces of furniture. Probably china but perhaps vietnam. The largest panel measures 215mm. Bone inlays are missing.

The stone is a creamy tone with pale russet flecking mainly seen on the back. A darker brown veining can be seen on the lower leg. It is carved overall, including the underneath showing one leg folded under. The polish is an even soft gloss like that produced from years of handling. Good condition, with no chips or restorations.
