In Chinese culture this symbolizes fertility and a desire to have many children on another level the lotus reflects purity, strength and rebirth- as it rises from the mud and blooms into something beautiful. Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Pottery Chest (16th Century)
A pottery model of a hinged chest made during the 16th century (c.1550 - 1600). Made from a hard creamy-white pottery and coated in green and golden-yellow glazes that have, in places, acquired a silvery iridescence, a result of very long exposure to moisture.
Length 14 cm, height 11 cm. "Calcified" burial deposits in places and a couple of small chips at the corners. No sign of restoration or repair...

Beautifully carved Qing Dynasty softwood stand. Although it must have been the seat for a Fangding censor, the scroll work carving dominate its decoration such that It could be used to display a variety objects aesthetically. Dimensions 12 cm long, 9 cm wide and 4.5 cm high.

A rare pair of Chinese cloisonne enamel 'holy water' bottles, Qianlong/Jiaqing, c. 1800. Height 23 cms.

The only pair to have come on the market in recent times were sold at Christie's New York, 18.9.2014, for USD 23,750.
