19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with bronze top depicting kneeling Okame covering her mouth with her hand as she modestly giggles at the very suggestive shape of a huge nose of a tengu mask lying in front of her. Excellent metalwork with gold, silver and copper inlays, beautiful amber colored patina on the bowl. Early 20th C Japanese glazed porcelain figure of a puppy, most likely an akita. The puppy is wearing a ruffled collar with bells. If you hold this piece under a bright light, you can see some surface crazing that occurred after firing during the cooling process, which attests to its age. In excellent condition, it measures 5.5" high, 3.5" wide, 4.5" deep.

Adorable Japanese Gosho-Ningyo doll standing while holding tassel, large hat on head, wonderful jacket painted with flowers, Taisho Period (early 20th century). Size: 9 3/4" high x 8" wide.

An antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tsukue made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Two drawers used for the storage of an inkstone and brushes as well as paper for writing transaction records and receipts. The drawer interiors have minor ink stains which is a testament to its usage and function.

Early 19th Century, nicely hand-carved and engraved boxwood netsuke depicting a Chinese Sages riding an Ox while holding peonies in both hands, a symbol of prosperity or congratulations between friends. Chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the platform where the ox stands, and continues through any of the spaces made by the legs of the ox. Rich patination. Unsigned...

Very unusual 19th century multi-metal netsuke in a form of a locking box opening to reveal a portable sundial in one half and a compass in the other, both working. The compass has 12 sections around it, each section is inscribed with a name of a different zodiac animal. The body is bronze, the outside it is delicately chased with scrolling foliage on the front, with constellation points and stars and a swinging loop on the back for hanging...

This is finely carved 18th Century Japanese netsuke depicting Jittoku Sennin. He is a Chinese Shih Teh who appears as a boyish figure that is marked with the wrinkles of old age. He is often depicted holding a broom, such as in this case. Incredible large chimney himotoshi, common of netsuke made during the Edo period of Japan. Unsigned. An exceptional, detailed Japanese netsuke signed my a master, early 19th. century.

A female figure inside a back or sack, dragging it around her one hand and her head protruding. It was made by a master (in kanji-signs 花楽 or 花樂).

The piece is fine decorated overall and delicately signed below. Very beautiful workmanship and among the finest of the period, really.

This is an Early 19th Century, Dear Horn Antler Netsuke in the form of a Recumbent Ox with a rope attached to its head that is laying on top of its body. Excellent detail and powerful compacted form on a material that is very difficult to carve. unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.75inches (4.5cm) wide, 1.16 inches (3.0cm) deep, and 0.79 inches (2.0cm) tall. Ox's right rear hoof has been repaired, but, its otherwise, in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos.

A Japanese blue underglazed blue and white Kakiemon style porcelain bowl of hexagonal section. The interior is painted to the centre with a formal floral arrangement, the lobed steep interior sides are painted with alternating complex panels, the exterior sides with formal meandering scrollwork, the six-character mark of Chenghua to base...

A small antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made of Kuri (Chestnut), Keyaki (Zelkova) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original bronze hardware including the Warabite handles. A pair of sliding doors and a lift-out door housed the tea accoutrements for serving guests...

This early 20th century ceramic beast looks like Shi Shi. It is 8 ¾” high, 3 ¾” wide and 7” long. It depicts a brown and beige color sitting beast with its mouth wide open. The maker’s signature “Seyama” is on the bottom. It is in excellent condition.

This is a finely carved Mid 19th Century Japanese Netsuke depicting two seated Karakos who are back to back to each other; one playing the Flute, and the other wearing a Shishimai mask. Wonderful rich patina. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.23 inches (3.1cm) and 1.25 inches (3.2cm). Netsuke is in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos.

Important Edo Period C.1850 scroll painting of Kannon holding `Yatagarasu` the divine crow and messenger to the gods. Symbolizes the sun and like the sacred phoenix resides in the celestial realm. A mark of rebirth and rejuvenation. Yatagarasu as a crow-god is a symbol specifically of guidance. This great crow was sent from heaven as a guide for Emperor Jimmu on his initial journey from the region which would become Kumano to what would become Yamato, (Yoshino and then Kashihara)...
