This is a beautiful and rare original antique Japanese Polychrome Woodblock Print "Itsutomi" Ukiyo-e by Utagawa Toyokumi dated 1793 or 1795, Edo Period, depicting a beautifully dressed and elegant Lady with her Shamisen instrument on the floor. Calligraphy markings/seal. Overall in very good condition with very small inconsequential tear on the outside (right frame, see photo). Size: 15.5" x 10.25" (39.5 cm. x 26.5 cm). This Woodblock has now been framed under glass.

Meiji, 1880's, 22" high, 31" wide, 16" deep, Red lacquered leaf shape mon decoration with Kanji Characters, original woven rope handle in the back, and original Rice Paper lining inside. Some black lacquer finish pieces are off from the woven Bamboo surface.

19th century Asakusa school staghorn sashi type netsuke carved in a shape of a stem of Immortality Fungus with 3 heads. Elegant carving, beautiful rendition of fungus head textures, very pleasant staining typical for the Asakusa School pieces. Very clever design, himotoshi is formed by natural opening between stems, excellent wear and patina on the surface. Length 6 1/8 inches (155 mm).

This is a finely hand-carved netsuke in Ebony wood of a Nasube (Aubergine or eggplant). Netsuke was carved by an unknown artist from the Iwami Province sometime during the 19th century. The carving exhibits similar material and carving characteristics of a netsuke (Photo #7) made by Kyokusui; item 133* of Bonhams catalog. 19th century wooden netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape carved on the front in low relief with a woman holding in her mouth an object that looks like a hammer striker for a musical instrument, a cloth wrapped top of a biwa (Japanese lute) in her hand and a scaly body of a dragon on her right. The woman is Benten - the Goddess of learning, speech and music - and one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, and the netsuke can be interpreted as a wish for scholarly achievements...

This is an 19th Century finely carved netsuke depicting a Blacksmith sitting on a stool and getting ready to place a shoe on one of the Horse's Hoofs. The horse is standing right next to him, with his body turned towards the blacksmith. Very nice detail and excellent golden-yellow patina. Unsigned. This netsuke shows wear due to handling...

Pair of 19th century Goto School menuki - Japanese sword fittings - each depicting a puppy with collar in different attitude. Superbly beautiful shakudo with characteristic black surface, crisp casting and detailing, wonderful patina. Come in very well made fitted kiriwood box. Length 0.8 inches.

Very unusual 19th century lacquered wood netsuke of eagle talons clutching a tama (Precious Gem). Beautifully carved out of dark dense wood (probably kurogaki - black persimmon), gold lacquer highlights to the folds of the talons, tama is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black and later wood start showing. Beautiful wear and patina. Length 1.7 inches.

Museum piece bronze temple lantern dated Bunsei 13 ( Edo Period C. 1830). Inscription on the base reads: Bunsei 13, Year of the tiger, November, Auspicious Day. Gosho - machi ( Gosho village) Shoei-Ji (Shoei Temple). Shoei Temple is a Jodo -shu temple in Nara established in C.1100. It was rebuilt in C.1577. Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. 19th C. Japanese Meiji period Cloisonne Vase, Ca. 1880, colorful flower branches on the turquoise color enamel background with silver wire, 7 1/4" high, 3 1/8" wide-widest part, silver bottom and top rim, green enamel work inside the vase near the top and bottom. The condition is good, no damages.

Early 19th century marine (walrus tusk) netsuke of a standing oni, its foot on rockery, leaning on a huge war club and eating a rice cake, and a puppy at his feet looking wiistfully at the same cake. Wonderful strong early carving, wonderful face, excellent depiction of its muscular arms and legs. Grainy texture of walrus tusk core can be seen at the bottom and on the back of the carving. himotoshi is formed by natural openings in the carving. Height 2.47 inches.

Japanese Seto Earthenware Tea Chaire, Tea Caddy with original Ivory Cap and Gold Foil inside, Ca. Edo Period, 1603-1868, 2 1/4" high include Ivory Cap 7/8" diameter-top rim, 1 1/4" Diameter-bottom rim, this beautiful old dark Brown glazed Tea Chaire or Tea Caddy kept original Ivory Cap, which is stained with dark brown tea between porous grains, some rough spot inside the top rim.
