This is truly a museum worthy piece from the great satsuma artist, Seikozan. It is probably our all time favorite example from this artist. This vase is the mate to another one we sold. Likely months of work went into this vase and it's literally smothered with intricate enamels and gold work. The vase stands 9 1/2 inches tall. This vase appears to be nearly perfect but it has had a rim chip repair.

Japanese Oshi-e Ningyô of a High-Ranking Oiran Geisha. 12 x 8.75 inches, 30.5 x 22.25 cm. These were very popular during the Meiji Period; over 400 million dollars in sales (in current currency) was recorded in 1888. The characteristics of Matsumoto Oshi-e Ningyô are that the design is stuffed heavily with cotton and the faces are painted in Ukiyo-e (the floating world of Edo period) style. It is very rare to find old Oshi-e Ningyô in this quality and size today...

The is a small stoutly made cloisonne teapot.The piece shows better and the enamels are more glossy than what is see here in the close-up enlarged images. The condition is good but there is some enamel damage on the lid that can be seen in the images and the bronze rim of the pot is flattened a bit. The piece is 3 1/2 inches tall and about 4 inches across at the spout. Like many of Namikawa Yasuyuki pieces. the ground color is black.

Beautiful Antique Japanese tea kettle. Made in iron, there are vertical striations down the sides of kettle overlayed with bunches of grapes and vines, as well as flying birds. The guard shape of the kettle and handle symbolizes the seasonal autumn months and harvest. The kettle lid models a bronze red two toned beautifully lacquered glazing. This is a very attractive Japanese cloisonne vase by a rare artist. The vase is not signed but the work is very unique. A signed Goto vase with very similar work can be seen on page 79 of the book Japanese Cloisonne by Coben and Ferster. We used to own that vase and the mate that went to it. Japanese antique couch, elaborately carved with coiling dragons, curving arms are carved in the form of two dragons, the seat is fitted with a cushion covered in silk brocade with a Chinese design, Meiji Period. Size: 41 1/4" high x 49" wide x 22" deep. (the seat is 42" wide x 16/17" deep.)

This is a very fine early Japanese plique-a-jour bowl. The bowl measures 4 3/8 inches across and stands 2 1/4 inches tall. The bowl has two short lines in the yellow/red mums on the side that are hard to see. Look for them in the images. They can not be felt with a fingernail and are probably not all the way through. It is mounted with silver rims.

This is a wonderful bright and colorful wireless cloisonne vase from Kumeno. The vase actually looks more like porcelain than cloisonne enamel. It has a pleasing stout form and is in excellent overall condition with some rim oxidation/wear. It stands 6 inches tall and is 5 inches wide.

This is a very attractive and richly decorated Japanese cloisonne vase. At fist glance one would think it was made by Namikawa Yasuyuki because of the mottled colors and glow to the enamel. There are both silver and gold wires used in the designs. It is not signed but it is so similar to a Namikawa piece that we believe it was made by Shibata, his student. It stands 6 inches tall and is quite heavy because of the thick enamel. The vase may have had a lid at one time but I can't say for certain...

This is a rare example of a Japanese cloisonne teapot done in the Kyoto style. This piece is in amazing condition for it age. The pot measures 6 1/2 inches across and 6 inches tall with the handle up.

This is a rare and large wireless cloisonne vase. It is not signed but because of the Iris flowers and water plants we believe it was made by Gonda. In fact we once had a signed Gonda piece with Koi and almost identical water plants. A beautiful large vase that looks perfect but upon very close inspection, a line deep in the enamel can be seen in bright light. I show it on the last image. This vase 18 1/2 inches tall, heavy and stoutly made.

This is a beautiful rare Japanese Cloisonne tray. If it were not signed, many would attribute this fine piece to the workshop of Namikawa Sosuke. The workmanship on this piece exceeds that of many other cloisonne trays to be seen with roosters or chickens. The tray measure just under 11 by 11 inches. Condition is very good but there is a slight indent on the rim with a minor bit of crazing at this spot on the reverse side. To view see the last 2 images.

Japanese Cloisonné Elephant Jar. This is a wonderful, charming figure and is an unusual fine example that is a joy to behold. In a circus pose with elaborate fittings. 11.5 inches, 29 cm tall. Excellent Condition. From a prominent and widely exhibited collection.

Japanese cloisonne vase of globular form with elongated neck, beautiful light green color with design of 2 white herons in flight, minor cracks on bottom not visible from front, Meiji/Taisho Period (very early 20th century). 9 3/4" high x 4 1/4" wide.

This is a beautiful Japanese cloisonne vase. Though not signed, the workmanship and colors clearly speaks Hayashi Kodenji made this. This same opinion is held by North America's leading cloisonne collector. The vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall. It appears perfect but there is a virtually invisible repair to the midnight blue enamel edge shown in the last image.

This is a beautiful rare box signed by Honda. We have never seen a box signed by Honda before this one. As an added bonus, the box is in excellent condition. Has silver rims and measures about 5 x 4 x 2 1/2 inches.

This is a very fine small Japanese cloisonne vase done in the style of early Namikawa cloisonne pieces. This vase like Namikawa works has butterflies, high sheen mottled enamels and gilt wires. Even so we believe it was probably made by Honda. This heavy piece stands 4 3/4 inches and the condition is nearly mint.

1890s (late Meiji period) Japanese cloisonne napkin ring with decoration of butterflies in flight among various flowers. Excellent quality work, vibrant colors, gilding to metal parts (worn from age), no cracks or losses. Diameter 1 7/8 inches, width 1 inch.

This is a great Japanese cloisonne bowl. We are quite confident the artist was Kumeno. The bowl while being very attractive does have some condition issues. There are lines and some slight enamel loss but it is still a dazzling display piece. The bowl measures 5 1/2 inches across and is 3 1/2 inches tall.

This is a very beautiful and stylish Japanese Cloisonne vase. It looks like it could have been made a piece made by Kawaguchi Bunzaeoman but it is signed with a tiny script by Ota. It was primarily created in the basse-taille style with traditional cloisonne then used with the flowers and leaves. The vase is heavy for its size and the enamel is thickly applied. This is a beautiful and highly unusual Meiji era vase. It's decorated with gold fish or Oranda swimming around water plants and hanging wisteria. It measures Measures 9 5/8". Condition is very good with a very faint hit/blemish low on the vase. Tough to see even when looking for it. This vase is not signed but everything about it says, made by Ogasawaro Shuzo
