Unusual 19th century netsuke in bean shape carved on the inside with a scene of a shishi family (2 adults and a cub) frolicking among flowering peony bushes. Rare use of anabori (cavern) carving technique, perfect sculpting with deep undercutting. Beautiful faces and flower petals, great patina. Single 19th century Japanese sword menuki depicting water a shepherd boy playing flute leaning against a standing buffalo, a folded umbrella sticking out of his robe. The subject is bokudo - a theme of a perfect peace of mind, and one of the stages of a journey towards Buddhahood. Great design and detailing - see the face and skin folds on the back of the animal, beautiful dark patina, gilding. Length 1 5/16 inches.

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese wooden kushi (hair comb) with brown and gold (2 different gold colors) lacquer decoration of numerous fern leaves, design continuing onto the back. Beautifully made out of dense brown wood, superb fine lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in excellent condition. Length 3.54 inches.

This is a mid-19th century netsuke possibly made by Ishikawa Rensai. an Asakusa School carver, that paints a comical portrayal of a Fu L:ion in a reclining pose with its right paw resting on a Mokugyo. Attributed to the Asakusa carver because of the close likeness of the subjects' characteristics and theme. A very similar piece was sold at the Mang Netsuke Collection Sale, conducted on 07 December 2012, at Falls Church, VA, by Quinn's Auction Galleries, Lot 180, for $2,600, plus premium (25%)...

Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's storage chest). Made with keyaki (zelkova elm) wood frame and front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood sides and top. 2 large sliding panels open to a large compartment. Below this are 4 drawers of various sizes. Iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls. Deep reddish wiped lacquer finish.

This is a charming stoneware Japanese bowl censor from 1750. It fits perfectly into the hand carved wooden stand which was probably made for the incense burner around 1900. There are no makers marks on either the bowl on the stand for identification. Covered with a thick matte gray white glaze with iron flecks and decorated solely with 3 button tabs below the rim, the censor is a wonderful early example of Japanese mingei stoneware ceramics.

Very large iron tsuba representing a man riding a giant boar. This illustrates the story of a hunter who to defend his lord during a hunting party jumped on a boar, rode it, sat upside down and stabbed it to death. This brave hunter was called Nitan No Shiro and the action took place around Mount Fuji. The tsuba is in hammered iron, the drawings of the hunter and the boar are incised with a chisel, the hat of Nitan is inlaid in sentoku (copper) some details are in gilded bronze or gold...

An unusual deep square moulded bowl with a slightly everted rim decorated both to the exterior and the interior with stylised dragon and floral motifs within iron red grounds and leaf and lotus motifs to the corners. The rim decorated with an underglaze blue diaper band inset with small stylysed floral motifs...

A good quality Antique, 19th century, Meiji Period, Japanese Kutani porcelain plate - dish, with a thick and heavy body, extremely well potted, and beautifully hand painted and enameled with peonies and birds. Please note that this type of Kutani porcelain with a thick body was made generally for the domestic Japanese market. MEASUREMENTS: Diameter 25 cm (9 7/8 in) Height: 4.5 cm (1 3/8 in). A Japanese porcelain plate decorated with a dignitary beneath a parasol, attended by his servant, in a garden. The cavetto is unusually decorated with a continuous landscape, a device not often encountered on Arita porcelain. The use of linear shading is reminiscent of Chinese “Master of the Rocks” style. The back is entirely plain with four spur marks within the foot-rim. Arita, circa 1680~1700.

Late Edo Period Musha Ningyo of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. This wonderful example of high quality has an extraordinary presence, sumptuous brocades, gold lacquered armor, a spectacular helmet, and many other fine details. His face is gorgeously and masterfully carved with finely burnished gofun. Figure height: 20 inches (51cm), with arrows: 25 inches (63.5 cm). Excellent Condition.

Antique Japanese rare and tall ikebana basket, intricately woven of fine split bamboo. The body of the basket has a beautiful, undulating quality. The woven pattern is wildly natural on the lower portion, then switches to ordered bands closer to a wide rim. The extraordinary handle is made of twisted root wood.

This is a very beautiful and stylish Japanese Cloisonne vase. It looks like it could have been made a piece made by Kawaguchi Bunzaeoman but it is signed with a tiny script by Ota. It was primarily created in the basse-taille style with traditional cloisonne then used with the flowers and leaves. The vase is heavy for its size and the enamel is thickly applied.
