A Bronze elephant under attack by two tigers, one tiger is on his back, and one is under his front foot. The elephant has a finely chased hide and original ivory tusks, and the tigers have etched bronze strips. There is a makers mark inscribed on the bottom of the elephant's right front foot which says "Jonon"(south castle). The okimono measures about 7" wide x 7 1/2" tall, and dates to the Meiji Period. Late Meiji (1890s to 1910s) netsuke of a standing fat baby boy wearing just a bib and holding a thick rope that serves as a collar for a puppy standing next to him. Excellent carving, great chubby face, superb depiction of his fat body and fingers. Nice flow to the rope with its twisted texture, expert use of black, orange and golden ink, beautiful wear and patina. Signed HOZAN on the bottom - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 470, number 741). Height 1 13/16 inches.

Kogo box 香合, incense and perfume holder, in polychrome enamels in the cloisonné technique with a turquoise background depicting a mandarin duck. On the sides there are floral motifs of bamboo and lotus flowers. The turquoise background evokes the image of crystal clear waters and clear skies. The interior is covered with an original fabric. Meiji(1868-1912) Japanese Wood Lacquer 5 Layers Inro with Bamboo & Wood Boy Netsuke

It is 3.3 inches (8.5 cm) tall by 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) wide. The netsuke is 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) tall.

It is in good condition with no repairs except peeling of lacquer, a gold leaf is loose, chips, and hairline cracks at the netsuke (as seen in the photos).

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) Japanese pottery kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony) of circular shape, its top decorated in low relief with various blooming flowers surrounded by lotus petals. Earthenware body with slight glaze and different color enamels, the inside is gilded and has residue from incense use. Stamped on the bottom with potter’s seal. Great piece in Japanese taste, in beautiful vintage condition. Diameter 2 3/8 inches, height 1 1/4 inches.
