Very beautiful antique aka-raku (red raku) chawan (teabowl) with Raku 11th generation Keinyû (1817-1902)'s seal. Early Meiji Era.

Born as a son of Ogawa Naohachi, a sake brewer from Tanba, the present Kameoka City in Kyoto, he was taken into the Raku family as Tannyu's son-in-law. He succeeded as the 11th generation in 1845. He retired in 1871, assuming the name of Keinyu...

Japanese early Meiji period deep wood Merchant chest, or box with three(3) deep graduated size drawers with black iron handles, 11" high, 16 1/4" deep from front to back, 8" wide, retains light honey color original finish. Dovetail joint around the back corners, wood shrinkage on top and side, shows the wears and tears, all original condition.

Okame, the Goddess of Mirth, is commonly paired with Usobuki in Kyogen theater. This is a rare and old pair of Okame and Usobuki ceramic figures. This is Yogi which a rich merchant used in a district for Edo period. As for this, good-quality Tumugi-Silk is used. This is dyed by Yuzen- dyeing. As for this, brown is used for a basic color. The brown items were popular in the big city for Edo period. As for this, the shading off which is one of the technique of the Yuzen dyeing is very impressive. The shading off expresses the three-dimensional impression of the pattern. This has slight fading on a shoulder...

Japanese bronze usubata, used for ikebana flower arrangements. With tripod cabriole legs. The interior of the usubata shows verdigris patina from age. The casting is very heavy and shows simple elegance.

This is shirushi hanten jacket of very rare indigo dye cotton in Edo period.It can be worn. It is shirushi hanten of the buddhist temple in Kyoto. The motif of the back and the chest is very impressive. There is a little stain. There is one pinhole. However, it doesn't stand out. The state is very good in thick cotton. Warm touch of the indigo dye cotton in Edo period is wonderful. I must feel it for the hand...

I thik this is Japanese (?) candlesticks dated from the Meiji period (1863 - 1912). Some holes. The biggest one is shown in the enlargement #7. These are generally caused by too much dampness in Japan. 17 1/2" high.

An antique Japanese Gifu Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite stye handles. 5 exterior drawers for storage and organizing with 2 sliding doors behind which store records and books were kept. Hinged door secures 2 small drawers where valuables were hidden away. Horizontal side slats provide strength and a visual design element complimenting the sliding door slats...

This is a very fine and rare Japanese cloisonne box. The piece could have been made by Kumeno because of the style and quality. This box has been masterfully repaired on the bottom underside to chips in the dark blue enamel. The repair look great with no silver wire work and none of the flowers affected. The box has also not been sprayed. It has gilded bronze rims and this has worn. The box measures 4 3/4 by 4 1/4 and is 2 1/4 inches tall.

Japanese noh theater mask of a woman, carved with pierced eyes, mouth, and nostrils for the wearer, as well as two pierced holes at the temples to be secured against one's head. Lacquered in flesh tone, black hair and blackened teeth and eyes, red lips, and black lacquer interior. With kiri (paulownia) tomobako, inscribed with the name "Zouonna".

Japanese incense box in the form of a flattened drum with realistic wood grain pattern in gold flake togidashi maki-e lacquer and high relief lacquer to resemble iron studs along the sides. The top of the box is done in low-relief maki-e gold lacquer with the image of a mother hen and father rooster pecking for food with their three infant chicks. The crest and waddle of each rooster are done with touches of red lacquer. The interior box and bottom are done in dense nashiji lacquer gold flakes...

This is a Japanese antique handspun & natural indigo dye cotton tsutsugaki and katazome child hanten of Horse and ema ,shogi pattern of the Meiji era. The design of the shogi piece from hyoutan is an auspicious proverb that jokes really come true. There are stains and discoloration.It has no damage. The samurai class in feudal Japan, as well as their retainers and footsoldiers (ashigaru), used several types of jingasa made from iron, copper, wood, paper, bamboo, or leather.
