The vessel features a reel-shaped body with stepped foot and a flange. The doomed top with the head of Medusa at center. Medusa is rendered with a round face and curls ending in snake heads.
The pyxis is made in one piece and open at the bottom. The piece was not intended for concrete use and served as richly decorated burial object.
The surface shows remains of the original white engobe with gilded areas.

Chinese Qing dynasty monochrome blue glazed censer with inward rounded rim. The white glazed interior ends at the circular unglazed center. This form evolved from a tripod censer and vestiges of the three legs remain as small protrusions at the bottom surrounding the unglazed circular base. The bowl is decorated inside with ducks and enamel plants in the style of the "Famille Verte" we find the colors fired at low temperature aubergine, green, some very rare touches of blue and the fragile iron red, detail in gold. The outlines of the subjects are either black or red. The circles are in underglaze cobalt blue fired higth fire. The white backgrounds are decorated with a secret decoration of plants, incised before firing in the clay, it is difficult to see, one of the photos suggests...
The painting was attributed to Shao Mi (1592-1642). Shao Mi was a Chinese landscape painter, calligrapher, and poet during the Ming Dynasty. Shao was born in Changzhou County (now part of Suzhou) in the Jiangsu province. His style name was “Seng-mi” and his sobriquets were “Gua-chou” and “Fen-tuo jushi”. Shao was known as one of the Nine Friends of Painting together with Dong Qichang, Wang Shimin, Wang Jian, Li Liufang, Yang Wencong, Zhang Xuezeng, Cheng Jiasu, and Bian Wenyu.
