A large vase by the legendary Miyashita Zenji 宮下善爾 (1939-2012), one of the greatest contemporary Kyoto potters. This is an early work, when he focused on celadon-like glazes. At that time he was studying ancient Chinese pieces, and was influenced by his father who excelled in celadon. This is very large piece from that period. Titled Green Crystal Glaze Flower Vase (Rokushōyū kabin 緑晶釉花瓶), it is glazed stoneware, from Shōwa Period, early 1970...

Work 73-6 Bizarre Maki. this print was done in early 1973 It is one of the ugliest Maki prints I have ever seen. In this period Maki did some of his largest prints and some also with seemingly weird qualities. But these big ones – easily seen to be a variation of Nothing or Mu—are not riddles. We know what they are because Maki told us what he meant. Here, he left no such advice. Several friends have also said they do not know what Maki meant So we leave it at that for now...

A trio of sculptural forms by Takano Moto-o dating from the formative years of modern Japanese crafts at the height of Sodeisha influence in the 1960s. These are being offered as a group for one price. One is distorted, like an apparition, or the world seen through an old pane of glass. The second is like a flute licking back; both in pure white. The third is a square basin with handles decorated with a geometric pattern...

Richly glazed complex form covered box that was pressed in to a hand mold and later finished off in temmoku and tessha accents. Obviously a well conceived form, this box was made by the son of legendary Mashiko potter, Sakuma Totaro, Sakuma Kenji.. The form, finish, lid and foot can easily lead to the Mashiko style and Sakuma in particular. All in all a very well conceived piece by the son of a pottery legend.

The box and lead measures approximately 3.76" tall, 5" long and 4.25" wide...

Elegant Hagi chawan with white to faint lavender ash glaze over slip and daido clay body. Classic turned foot, kodai with cut notch and impressed seal.

Though marked, I have been unable to read the seal and identify the potter. What I can say is this chawan is definitely post-war, circa 1960 -1970 and very much resembles the works of Sakakura Shinbei XII and Saka Koraizaemon XII from that time period.

This bowl measures 5" X 3.25" and is in great condition. No Box.
