Following graduation from Okayama University in 1957, he taught art for a short time before dedicating himself to pottery in 1962. He was recognized quite early by the Japanese Ceramics Society, awarded in 1969, and would receive the JCS Gold award in 2002, one of the most coveted prizes in Japan. This exhibition quality lyrical Momoyama styled Shino chawan is by Mino veteran potter, Yamada Seiji. Glazed in a uroi (wet looking) Muji-Shino glaze over some rapid iron brushwork, this chawan is exceptionally well modeled and has a wide variety of color tones running from pure snow white to yellowish and coral highlights...

The deep sides of this striking bowl are covered in unusual shades of lustrous orange tinged feldspar by master craftsman Kato Yasukage XIV enclosed in the original wooden box titled Shino Chawan and signed By the 14th Generation Yasukage followed by his seal.  The coloring appears as if the bowl is still held in the whispering grasp of the flame, a bright yellow-orange which appears almost liquid in places.  Very unusual and a most unique piece by this important artist.

Fantastic and perfectly shaped Bizen chawan by great contemporary artist Hiroshi Toyofuku. It has a stunning glaze with a fine abstract 'landscape' of colors on it. It fits smooth in the palm of the hands and gives you a real warm feeling.
