A fantastic Tea Bowl by rising star Furutani Kazuya exhibited at Mitsukoshi Department Store, enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Chawan. Ash-glaze blasted with fire color of foggy green and yellow shizen yu glaze, showing the secret to the Furutani family's pottery. The everted shape allows the bowl a very comfortable fit into the palm, and the wide kodai base allows it to sit stable and firm, creating a proud silhouette...

A playful work with a dancing rim and lively colors like the yukata clad dancers at traditional Bon-Odori dance festivals of August by Tanimoto Kei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Chawan.  In the glaze rising up are tendrils of smoke, like the wispy veils rising from burning Incense coils.  Inside is entirely coated in thin green ash.  A wonderful work.

A white porcelain bowl with silver lining by the young female artist Itaya Narumi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Chawan (flower). Stylized floral motifs are raised off the raw white porcelain surface, richly textured, while the inside is sheer as gilded silk. About the delicate foot ring is glazed and sculpted with petals. Rivulets of ash dribble down the red earth sides of this vase by Nishiura Takeshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Echizen Henko. Positioning in the kiln, with one shoulder angled toward the flame, ensure the lip and one rounded corner are charred in that distinct ocher inidicative of the region. Elsewhere the ash is molten green. A great example of this lesser known ancient kiln site. The vessel is 18 x 13 x 17.5 cm (7-1/2 x 5 x 7-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition...

Guinomi covered in rivulets of flowing ash in the front and the backside with a pale brown color. the Tokkuri, shows a flash of light strikes out on the front and the neck. Like staring at the burning wick of a candle it makes all around it seem dark. This very robust and Momoyama influenced vase was made by Mino potter and part magician, Hori Ichiro. Thrown out of a grainy, off white mogusa clay and decorated in blades of grass on the front and side, the pot was finished off with Hori's classic Shino glaze and fired in his wood kiln. Though difficult to see in the photos, there is a sheen around the neck, mouth and other areas created by a very thin layer of ash has adhered to the surface making for a very interesting addition to the glaze. ...

A striking Tea Bowl in mottled Bizen clay from the unorthodox artist Kawabata Fumio enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Shizen Nerikomi Yohen Chawan. The mixed earth is pulled and twisted out of shape, one can sense the plasticity with your eyes. Plethora of Yohen kiln effects with burnt red where it has been licked by flame, yet remains pale from the shadows of the kiln. It is truly magnificent work.
