This chawan is has heavily animated keshiki landscape and feels wonderful in the hands. Decidedly modern, Japanese, and minimalist; the textures, colors, and form of this fascinating tea bowl all suggest inspiration from natural objects. The grey, smooth, polished interior of the tea bowl contrasts nicely with the textured ferrous dark ochre ash glaze on the exterior. Somewhere between an ido and wan-nari shape, it rests surprisingly well in the hand and allows the user to contemplate the mysteries of nature through their tactile and visual senses.

An incredible mixture of colors glisten like the walls of a Limestone cave in the hills of Akiyoshidai, the karst regtion south of Hagi where the important artist Kaneta Masanao created this bowl, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Who says the work of a woman potter is feminine? This is a powerful Iga work by Watanabe Aiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. There is nothing sedate about this work, charred and dripping with glassy green glaze, freckled with flying ash; the heavy lug handles jutting from the side slightly off kilter. The vessel is 7 inches (17 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and in excellent condition.

This piece is made of copper glaze called "oribe". At first , it is covered with feldspar and painted with iron and next it is covered with copper glaze. It is firing into burning charcoal in the kiln, so there are complicated atmosphere, oxidation and reduction.
The oxidation atmosphere makes the copper glaze red, the reduction atmosphere makes it green and the mixture atmosphere makes complicated color.

Large and impressive Iga chawan by rising Iga-yaki star, Atarashi Manabu.The surface of this chawan is covered in a sheet of glass and there is wonderful bidoro drips and clam shell impressions where the chawan was fired on its side. Rich and elegant kannyu, crackled layer, seiji celadon by Furukawa Toshio. This chawan, very much in the style of Shimizu Uichi has a beautiful seiji glaze over a perfectly thrown iron clay body.
Furukawa Toshio (b. 1949) is well known for his celadon and copper red pottery and he has been widely exhibited and illustrated both in and outside of Japan.
This chawan measures 5.7" X 2.75" and is in perfect condition and comes with its original artist signed box.
Most noted for his works of Shino, this attractive Oribe piece by Kato Takeshi is distinctive and eye-catching.

Fine kutsu-gata hakeme chawan with flourishes of iron over the slip and under the clear, blue tinged ash glaze. The bowl is broad and fits well in the hand and has a crisp, well cut kodai that compliments the form and clay. Made by Goto Tetsu (Satoshi) who lives and works in Echizen (Fukui Pref.) at the Tsubaki-gama, he has spent a lifetime working within the Korean idiom combining Echizen and Karatsu pottery especially the gohonde and hakeme styles.

Mint Hagi masterpiece chawan by star potter Seigan Yamane. This extraordinary tea bowl is covered by a wonderful color glaze on brown pottery. In my opinion it is the most aesthetic chawan that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom.
Seigan Yamane was born in 1952, and started making Hagi ware in 1987. And then, he started his own pottery in 1992 and has ever been awarded a lot of prizes for his great work.
