Robust and classically medieval in origin, this Seto-Guro chawan was made by Toki Intangible Cultural property, Mizuno Takuzo. The deep black surface has a wetness to the glaze that adds to curdled surface of the chawan that gives way to the buff clay and well addressed kodai. The chawan is well animated by way of deep throwing marks made while the bowl was wet and on the wheel and then was ovalled slightly to create a pleasing form to the hand and the eye...

A pair of cups in silver and blue with gold by rising star Ichikawa Toru enclosed in the original signed wood box complete with Shifuku and Shiori. It is a privilege to introduce this incredible sculpture by the young female ceramicist Furui Akiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tsubomi (bud) dating from 2017. It is made up of hundreds of rolled sheafs of shaved clay covered in a white slip and fused together. The amount of work which goes into each sculpture is obvious, making her work great value.

Wow! This is quite a tsubo by revivalist Takahashi Shunsai enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Kama Hana Tsubo. A wack of ash blasts the shoulder over raw shiseki studded terracotta clay scorched the color of bricks. Fired on its side, opposite is charred and covered in molten ash where it had been buried in the embers. A minor divergence into one of the other plastic arts, here a silver flecked image of a carp made as a hanging vase by the iconic Kuroki Kuniaki accompanied by a signed wooden placard. It is 28 x 19 x 14 cm (11 x 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.

A tower of geometric in silver and red by Kawano Eichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The pebble textured surface and straight lines of the side are juxtaposed by the irregular and angular patterns of silver, like the outline of stones leading to a temple cast in shadow across the sides. This wonderful Ikeda Shogo tea bowl is decorated with both traditional and modern elements that speak to the possibilities of the tradition, enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Chawan. Wild cats, pine trees and Mt.Fuji in the background with the traditional black green and orange (Narumi) Oribe glaze. There is a lot to see and drink in from this chawan which says quite a lot regarding the directions of the modern Oribe tradition.
