Reminiscent of a perfectly formed oyster shell or the shell of a hermit crab, this recent creation by young artist Hiramatsu Ryoma demonstrates his creative imagination—influenced heavily by forms he discovered in nature. Described on the box as a “ammonite/ guinomi” (ammonite/ sake cup), Hiramatsu says his inspiration for this piece (and several others) came from an ancient form of sea life known as an ammonite—a large spiraled mollusk who’s shells are often found fossilized today...

Mint Oni-Hagi masterpiece chawan with notched foot by star potter Seigan Yamane. This extraordinary tea bowl is covered by wonderful different shades of orange-red glaze on brown pottery. In my opinion it is the one of the most aesthetic chawans that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom. We have a similar chawan with greenish glaze - same price.

This creative and impressive Mughal dagger was made by Ron Frazier (1940-2011) who endeavored to make knives in a distinctly pre-modern style and manner which clearly shows in his knives. Ron won a number of awards for his knife making over the years including Best in Show and Best Art Knife at the Blade show (the Superbowl) for knife makers). This particular knife was featured in his knife making catalogue and is in great shape and also comes complete with a fitted wood display/ storage box...

Wonderful Tobe Chawan with a fantastic glaze, made by the great 3rd Rakuzan Tamai (1924-1990) about 50 years ago. Rakuzan Tamai was accepted several times at the Nitten Exhibition in Japan. His work is part of the imperial houshold as well.
In mid 18th century Tobe ware was started in Ehime prefecture, Japan, and in the end of the 19th century, there was an increase in the production of tableware for export to South East Asia. Nowadays such type of Chawan is hard to find.

A striking Tea Bowl in mottled Bizen clay from the unorthodox artist Kawabata Fumio enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Shizen Nerikomi Yohen Chawan. The mixed earth is pulled and twisted out of shape, one can sense the plasticity with your eyes. Plethora of Yohen kiln effects with burnt red where it has been licked by flame, yet remains pale from the shadows of the kiln. It is truly magnificent work.
