Formed as a variation on a sunflower or daisy, this graceful silver brooch features seven small coral beads in the center. It is completely handmade and is unmarked, save for some stray hatch marks and the number 5 scratched into the back. Its thoughtful design evokes a naturalistic delicacy and movement. The entire piece tests for silver except for the pin stem; the trombone clasp and tube hinge indicate a possible earlier date, but it is likely European...

A terrific pair of Art Deco double-sided cufflinks in 14K yellow and white gold by Harvey Avedon. The front faces feature a white gold circle engraved in a pattern of off-center concentric circles surrounded by a yellow gold border. The yellow gold back faces are decorated in a matching pattern of concentric circles. The design is typical of the strong geometric motifs used by Avedon from the late 1940s on. He was a maker of fine cufflinks, lighters and other men's accessories...
Not much is known - if anything at all - about Ars Plata whose signature is found on the Mexican silver and amethyst dangle earrings at hand. Bille Hougart lists an "Art Plat." in his book on Mexican silver hallmarks but I am not sure the two workshops / retailers (?) are the same. This lack of information is part of the field's reality yet it is always exciting to find a name not often encountered...

Designed by Karin Pedersen for JemAx of Denmark, this sterling silver vermeil and white enamel brooch is such a great example of Scandinavian minimalist / modernist design from the 1960s and 1970s. I love the pearlescence of the white here and the way its translucence brings out the guilloche motifs in the silver underneath. White is a gorgeous color in Scandinavian enamelwork and it pairs perfectly with darker, more subdued hue time and loving use has bestowed to the vermeil finish...
Intricately carved unusual natural coral ring consisting of rosebuds set in a 14 kt yellow gold stylized basket with 3 natural rubies on the handle. A vintage pair of three dimensional sterling silver pierced earrings, each formed from a single bent and flattened sterling wire with a pearl accent by modernist jeweler, Russell Secrest, (1935-2010).
These hand made earrings measures 3/4" at the widest, 5/8" deep and 7/8" tall. Marked Secrest Sterling on the side of both earrings. One earring is easier to read than the other.
They are opposites so frame the face when worn. The clutches are marked sterling.

One of Salvador Teran’s original designs that is difficult to find especially in the form of earrings, the “crouching man” is also a favorite of mine. Its rarity makes copies by Salvador's contemporary maestros avidly sought after and I am happy to present here an example by “3m”, a Taxco workshop known for emulating the renowned modernist’s work. Sterling silver, amethyst and strategically applied oxidation combine in this modernist interpretation of an ancient Aztec motif...
