One of the oldest and definitely one of the very few original workshops that are still in operation in Taxco, the Los Ballesteros taller created some of the best "mask" jewelry in the story of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance. Whether incorporated in rings, brooches, pendants or bracelets, their minimalist carved portraits are always finely executed and the silver-work which houses them quite often touches the monumental...

Composed of delicate, sectional curved bars with ring links. Each piece bears the unidentified maker’s mark of GHS and the sterling mark and Mexico marks; the necklace also has what looks like an eagle 3 mark. Both pieces have secure hook and ring clasps. The necklace is 18 ½ inches long; the bracelet measures 7 ¼ inches long. Weights: necklace, 24.6 grams; bracelet, 10.1 grams

This choker / necklace has a triangle geo pendant with a swinging colorful stone (greens, turquoise, browns). The pendant measures 2" x 2" at highest and widest. The choker is marked with the Taxco assay / eagle mark #3. It is also marked 925RJA MEXICO. This is a great find. It has good heft and is in excellent condition.

An unusual pair of sterling silver modernist earrings by Salvador Teran. Marked Salvador, Sterling, Mexico, Eagle mark and 159 for the style number. Measure 1" long and 7/8" wide. Screw backs function properly. Depict some kind of highly stylized Dancing creature or person. Fine condition. Nice contrast between the polished silver and darkened background. Great modernist design!

Maestro Mateo is mostly known for his brutalist rings and his work spans the 1980 divide. Most of his pieces that were made after 1980 are wrought in 950 silver, which almost became the norm in Mexican jewelry during that period...

A maestro from the middle period of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Carsi is among those Taxco silversmiths about whom we don't really know much. I have had pieces by him a few times over the years and I was pleasantly surprised to have found his signature on the ornate bangle bracelet presented here. This wire-work scrolled heart motif I am used to associating with Arte en Plata, even though I have seen it by other makers or even anonymous in the past...

Measures 2 7/8" long and almost 1/2" at the widest. Marked on the back Sigi Tasco, Hecho en Mexico, Sterling, 81, and Eagle #3. Also marked with what looks like design number 304.

Safety rollover clasp holds securely. In very nice condition. Has a little tarnish and minor surface scratches.

Out of Enrique Ledesma’s sterling silver and gemstone line, this modernist Mexican hinged bracelet is adorned with two faceted color-change sapphires. Mimicking the behavior of alexandrites by changing hue under different light conditions, these stones are often referred to as alexandrites themselves but they are in fact synthetic corundum...

This cute, sterling silver pin / brooch is a Mexican cat character. He is wearing a bowtie and has abalone (like, fur) belly. It measures 1 1/4" x 1/2" The back is marked with the #3 Assay Mark. It is also marked TAXCO MEXICO, in a circle, with JRC .in the middle. It is in excellent condition.

A Mexican sterling silver torque necklace with a single cubic zirconia. This vintage 1980 era Modern design sterling silver necklace currently measures 4- 7/8" from centre to opening and approximately 4 7/8" at the widest (measurements taken from inside of necklace). These necklaces are usually adjusted by the wearer. It is 3/4" at its widest section just to the right of the bezel-set cubic zirconia. The opening at the necklace back is currently 3 3/8"...

One of my favorite William Spratling designs, the original (bearing his signature) "hummingbird" pendant necklace I have seen crafted in all-silver and silver combined with black onyx or obsidian. I am sure other configurations must be available which I have not encountered so it is understandable that I was elated to discover this version marrying sterling with copper. Sterling doll cat motif. Well made with nice heft figural cat pin pendant sterling brass mixed metals stamped: TV-08 or TV-88 Mexico 925. The "T" barely visible in this viewer's opinion. The bail accommodates an omega/chain of 3.5-4mm wide.
The native peoples were known to make animal motif dolls for their children to play.

Just under 2 1/4" X 1", weighs 13 Grams and is in very fine preowned vintage condition...
