A scene of an adobe with the classic protruding wooden beams, a low wall, springtime pink/white flowering trees and a split rail fence completing the composition. The work is apparently unsigned. It is laid down (glued) to Masonite panel. It shows signs of having been rolled in the past--long parallel vertical cracks in the paint, as shown in several images. Most certainly it is by a listed artist but this one is a mystery...

This is an OIL ON BOARD with a Scene from the CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR ca. 1890. More accurately known as: The World's Columbian Exposition; the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. When I first saw this I thought it might be an image of Obama, in the style of Shepard Fairey, who created the now-famous "Hope" image. Upon closer examination I saw that it was obviously older, circa 1960's, judging from the label on the frame, which gives the artist as a Jim Moran of Visalia, California. The subject remains to me a mystery, but I wonder if it might be a famous 1960's African-American activist---or then again it might not be a black subject at all...

Three oil still life works on canvas by the same hand, each signed "G. Gillson", circa late 20th century, all painted in an earlier style. Measurements are 12" by 16" and 9" by 12", and frames 1 3/4" wide on a side. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name. These are nicely painted and will complement your traditional interior. The dark, wood frames have some scratches and you might want to replace them with gold, which would dramatically improve the overall presentation...

Original black-painted terra cotta sculpture of the head of an apparently African-American man, signed at the base "Marion Goodman". To date I have not located a listing for an artist by this name. The sculpture, which has some age (circa 1950's to 1970'?) measures roughly 18" high by 11" by 8"(including base) and weighs 22 pounds. The artist worked the clay with great skill to create a very life-like face, and the curls of the hair are also treated with care...

Oil on canvas laid on a card, unstretched, signed at lower right corner "C Vianello". The subject is an older lady seated in a darkened interior, obviously deep in thought. The work measures 13" by 10 1/4". It is sorely in need of some restoration, as it was laid long ago on a card which is now bent and cracked. The surface though stable is dry, and there is soiling and no varnish present...

Large terracotta sculpture we named "Leaf Tree Man". The body is stylized tree bark with a green glaze wash. By West Coast artist Dirk Dahl, the statue is signed by the artist and in excellent condition. Measures 24 inches high, 16" long. Weighs about 18 lbs.
