ONE OF A NUMBER BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**This is a small etching (the sheet 6" by 8 1/4", presently in an old tired mat but not framed), by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), titled at lower left margin "View From Top of the Mark" and pencil signed at lower right by the artist. The artist depicts a bird's eye view looking north towards Alcatraz and Marin County beyond, from the top of Nob Hill, on which the Mark Hopkins Hotel so famously sits...

Vintage still life of fruit executed in a Cubist style, oil on canvasboard, 16" by 20", (19 1/2" by 23" in black strip frame with liner), signed at upper left with a monogram that looks like "MR". The work is nicely worked by a skilled hand and condition is excellent. Frame shows its age. The piece was framed likely in the 1960's.

Studied - Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, winner of the Cresson Prize, WPA commissions, his non-objective paintings were included in 15 years of exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum [ 1947 - 1955]. This work is in very good original condition, frame is original, and measures app. 19" X 25", signed Ney,'61.

Large watercolor painting in impressionist manner, the subject an old boat, the "Virginia", stored in drydock by a coast. The work, 14" by 22 1/2" inside the innermost mat (25" by 34" framed) is signed at lower right with a signature that greatly resembles that of noted American illustrator artist JON WHITCOMB (1906-1988). Whitcomb is known for his commercial art for publication, featuring glamorous young women...

This is a painting on artist board, 22" by 14" inside its narrow modern framing, titled on the reverse in ball point pen "Avocado Tree", signed at lower right "Harry Lieberman" and dated there "62". HARRY LIEBERMAN (1876-1983) was a Polish-born, long-lived artist who didn't begin his artistic career until late in life. Lieberman had been preparing for the rabbinate but emigrated to the United States in 1906 when nearly thirty (some give his date of birth as 1880 rather than 1876)...

Etching with color possibly hand-applied, 5 1/4" by 5 5/8" inside the inner gold fillet, 11 1/2" by 10 7/8" as framed, unsigned, by important French 20th century artist MARIE LAURENCIN (1885-1956). From having checked the 1981 catalog raisonne by Daniel Marchesseau, I have determined that the most official title of this work is "Fillette aux Yeux Vertes" ("Young Girl with Green Eyes", although a number of other titles are in common usage for this unusually popular print)...

A **PAIR** of etchings, 21" by 17" as identically framed, one a still life of flowers in a vase in an interior, the other of a mother holding her child, only the floral work pencil signed, rather illegibly, at lower right (signature beginning with the "Sz...." common in Hungarian), and titled in Hungarian at lower left (as a Hungarian-speaker tells me) "Still Life" or "Flower Still Life". On the reverse backing of one is written in English "from Budapest--July 1966"...

An original ink drawing of a 19th century sailing ship, signed at lower right and dated 1970/Old Lahaina by artist WILLIAM SELLERS. I have not located much information on the artist, but see that pencil signed prints of some of his imagery were evidently distributed. This is definitely an original work; careful inspection shows his guiding pencil lines...

Original gouache by Joseph Amarotico (American, 1931-1985). This painting is signed and dated "64" l.r. It is also titled "Castle #1" on the backing paper. 18" by 13" painting alone, 26" by 21" in its original frame. From a collection of works originally purchased at the Socrates Perakis Gallery in Philadelphia in 1964--other works in this collection include paintings and drawings by Elizabeth Osborne, Johnny Aiello, and Socrates Perakis himself...

An unusually complex and modern mixed (pastel, charcoal) media drawing of ballerinas, 17 1/2" by 13 3/4" (27" by 23 1/4" framed), signed at lower right "Julian". This is a fine, uncommon work by noted California-associated artist JULIAN RITTER (1909-2000). The imagery features several ballerinas in various dance poses, the beauty of the female form the center of attention, as it usually was, in Ritter's art...
