Titled in pencil "Yellow Windows" at lower center, the artist has created a work with very American qualities, and reminiscent of Edward Hopper's strangely empty and lonely structures, or perhaps those of Charles Burchfield...

This 6 1/4" by 10" ink drawing on paper (11 1/2" by 13 3/4" as framed) is titled at lower left "Garden of Sounds" and is signed at lower right "STANDISH" and dated "52" I believe. It's a subtle work that does not take well to being photographed, (and I've had to enhance--darken--the photos a bit to make it easier to appreciate on a screen) but, viewed in person, it is quite an impressive and delicate work that reminds one somewhat of some of the drawings by Paul Klee...

All photos were taken through the detail-dulling non-glare glass that was popular in the sixties and seventies. I see a listing for a Frank Lockwood as photographer but no convincing listing for a painter by that name.
