This is a beautiful work by a well listed painter who was born in Russia and spent much time in the Pittsburgh area, as well as New York, before settling in Southern California later in life. Shulgold's biography tells of stints as a watchmaker and worker in a bottling plant, before yielding to the desire to create art...

A brown ink drawing of two standing men in conversation, signed at lower right in Hebrew script. A Hebrew reader tells me the signature could read "Yashkovsky" or "Shaikovsky" or similar. The work measures 8" by 6" (15 1/4" by 13" framed). The drawing was likely executed circa 1960's to 1980. A simple work which demonstrates the skill of the draftsman.

Gerald Leslie Brockhurst 1890-1978 English One of the finest portrait etchings ever created by British artist Gerald Brockhurst. "Henry Rushbury", created and printed in 1930. Rushbury, like Brockhurst studied at the Birmingham School of Art and the two later shared an apartment in London. Rushbury was an accomplished etcher as well... This etching is very richly printed, the subtle tonal range is incredible in person, our scan doesn't .do this image justice...

The work is by listed French artist GABRIEL ALBERT MARIE LEFEVRE. Not a lot of biographical information is available, but he painted landscapes and historical buildings in France in the 19th century. This work measures 6" by 8 3/4" inside the fine hand-drawn ornate mat, and 16 1/4" by 17 3/4" as framed...

A well painted c1800 - 1812 miniature of a British officer. The sitter is wearing the uniform of a major general, with a red tunic, blue lapels and collar, and gold epaulettes and buttons. The miniature is signed lower left, with a somewhat indecipherable calligraphic monogram of "RM"?. Presented in a gilt metal frame with a bevelled blue glass back. Excellent condition, with an overall size of 2 1/2" by 2"

A scarce and desirable lithograph by Vietnamese master artist Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000), titled "Mother and Child" or "Maternite", 1969, pencil signed by the artist and numbered 119/150 at lower left (hidden by the present mat). Watercolor and gouache painting of a ship or boat on roiling, stormy seas, circa 1970's, signed at lower left by artist "Andro", whose worn business card remains affixed to the backing. The work measures 23 1/2" x 17" and 25 1/2" by 19" as framed. The apparent zip code on the business card, 91203, I believe, is Glendale, California. The work is loose in the framing, slipping around. Frame is worn and will likely need to be replaced.

Van Severdonck f. 1863" in the lower left, inscribed and signed by the artist on the reverse. A luminous painting with striking color and detail.

PAIR of unsigned watercolors from Japan, one featuring a seaside beacon or shrine, the other small boats along a coast, a volcano (possibly Mt. Fuji) in the distance. The works were found intact and identically framed, but in shipping one frame essentially broke apart and may not be serviceable at this point. One painting measures 4 1/4" by 11 1/2", the other slightly smaller at 3 3/4" by 10 3/4" (and that one 9 3/4" by 17 1/2" framed)...

Oil on canvas painting of fruit, painted in a most attractive unusual style, the artist intentionally blanching the image through an intricate technique, 20" by 24" (26" by 30" as framed), signed at lower right "DORIS BLATE" and dated there 1956. Amazingly, considering the quality of the art, I am unable to find to date any information on the artist; an internet search does though find a Doris Blate (1907-1994) who lived in Queens, New York; possibly the artist considering the unusual name...
