English watercolor paintings on both sides of the paper, circa 1880, one side a lovely classic scene of several cows on a dirt track by a cottage with branching tree, the other side sheep grazing around a tree, a church steeple in the distance. The paper measures 11" by 15" and 17 1/2" by 13 1/2" in a modern frame (I suggest discarding the non-glare cloudy style glass). There is no signature nor other indication of authorship...

A set of EIGHT small paintings on Masonite, the largest as framed 8 1/4" by 6", the smallest 6 3/4" by 5 3/4", all signed at lower right corner by artist "J. (or possibly "S") Parraga". The works date to about the 1960's or early 1970's. The artist had obviously been witness to many bullfights, having studied the matador suit of lights, the decorated barbed banderillas, anatomy of the bull, and sun-washed stands...

This is a drawing in ink, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (25 1/2" by 21" in its old stained oak frame), signed at lower right by English-born artist Frederick (Fred) Sommerville Morgan (1865-1932). The name "Fred Morgan" is typically quickly associated with a major British impressionist painter, known for his sentimental genre paintings of little girls and their St. Bernard type dogs, in idyllic landscapes, (which bring to the half million dollar range at major auctions)...

An interesting and rather unusual part of the Emanation series that Haku Maki began to produce in the mid-1960s, Emanation 73 measures 8.3inW x 11.3inH and is the fourth of a small run of 50.

John Costigan, American, 1888-1972. This painting is oil on canvasboard, 10" by 14" in a 2" frame. Overall dimensions are 14" by 18". It is signed lower left J.E.Costigan, N.A. It is inscribed verso with the Title, Artist's name and address and is dated 1942. Costigan's best paintings are the wooded scenes with heavy impasto and brilliant color. This is a gem with a lovely Mother and Child among the splashes of autumn colors...

Boris Pagtoukhoff , a Ukrainian born artist who studied with A.A. Murashko,this work is a Still Life with Fruit dated 1927 , Oil on Canvas,35 x 42"

Original etching by Raphael Soyer, USA, born in Russia, 1899-1987). This work is signed by the artist lower right, numbered from an edition of 85, and is titled "Pedestrians". It could be described as a self portrait of the artist in a crowd of New York pedestrians. Framed.

Surfaced flat rounded top with natural deviations and form. Edges cascade down vertical. Base sites flat on the floor with three main touch points. White was exterior feel to the wood mixed with natural butter graining. Pulling a mix of light and dark tones.

Luigi Kasimir, Austrian, 1881-1962, "Grinzing, Vienna," Etching and aquatint in colors, image size 17 1/2 x 22 1/2, cat: Lorenz-23, pencil signed by the artist, framed.

An as-is condition example of the work of the much-storied American artist "T. Bailey", circa 1920, measuring 19 1/2" by 29 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right corner. The scene is of an east coast forest bordering a small lake, in autumn, the leaves changing. There is an interesting story about the artist who signed so many paintings "T. Bailey"...

Original ink and watercolor drawing of historic houses in New Orleans, signed at right by artist Jean Johnson and dated there 1968, and titled at left "Cottage, Hoggle Place" or similar. The work is detailed and very nicely handled. I cannot locate information on the talented artist. Measurements are 10 1/2" by 14 1/2" (16 1/4" by 19 1/2" framed). The photos were taken through the old detail-dulling non-glare glass (which I suggest be discarded)...

Gouache on paper drawing of a snowy mountain landscape with low structures depicted almost cubist style in the middle distance, apparently unsigned, circa mid 20th century, 12 1/4" by 16 1/2" inside the mat, 21" by 24" as framed. The cubistic handling of the houses reminds of artists like Andrew Dasburg and other New Mexico modernists, but this is just a guess. The colors are fresh and quite vigorous. The drawing is taped along the edges to a backing.

Woodcut entitled ‘Vates Sibyllinae’, showing three naked prophetesses next to a tree. This may be an early representation of the ‘Three Graces’ so fashionable in Renaissance art.
The print is taken from a Latin edition of Münster's Cosmography one of the most influential geographical works of the 16th century.
Sebastian Münster (1488-1552) was a cosmographer and professor of Hebrew who taught at Tübingen, Heidelberg, and Basel...

A charming portrait miniature that can be strongly attributed to the highly thought of artist Francois Dumont (1751-1831). The sitter is an attractive young woman wearing a white dress tied over a blue shirt that is accented by the blue ribbon in her hair. The overall diameter of the fabric-backed brass frame is 2 1/8".

A very similar work by Dumont is coming up at a European auction house in December 2022, with an estimate of 1500 Euro, not including premium...

One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a sketch in soft pencil on paper, the drawing, very simply framed just for protection purposes (no glass), measuring 15 1/2" by 19 1/2", signed at lower left, not dated but probably 1940's. The subject appears to be a European village with figures. The drawing is by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968)...

Hermine David 1886-1970 French This is a fine original oil on canvas by French artist Hermine David 1886-1970. The subject is a group of strollers in Luxembourg Gardens, Paris. This painting done circa 1930 is signed lower right and measures 18 1/8X15 inches. Housed in a custom French style frame. Hermine was one of the Ecole de Paris artists. In 1918 she married Jules Pascin. Their association seems to have been an influence on the artwork of both artists.
