This is one of the rarely encountered works of Latvian-born artist FREDERICK (FRIEDRICH) A. LEEKNEY (1880-1939), signed at lower left, where he wrote "Laguna Beach 1923". The piece, measuring 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" (23" by 19" framed), features grasses at the sand's edge. This would have been painted around the time that the Laguna Beach art colony was at its classical peak, when the town was a magnet to artists of all sorts...

Russell, it is almost certain, due to slight technique variances, that the portrait of the woman was done by Mrs. Moses B. Russell, nee Clarissa Peters. Although it is known that some of his signed pieces were, in fact, done by her, I know of no other instance where each artist did one of a pair...

This is a fine old drawing of an old-style wooden house with porch, an ancient old tree arching over the structure and two tiny figures at left. The drawing on paper, laid on a board, measures 14" by 9 1/2" inside the mat and 19" by 14 1/2" as framed. There does not appear to be a signature anywhere, but considering the quality of the imagery we must conclude that the artist was trained and listed. Found in Riverside, California, with Santa Barbara framer's sticker on the backing...

The painting is by a trained hand, the depth of the landscape and the majesty of the mountain captured with skill. The painting is in excellent condition.

Circa 1970 oil on canvas, 16" by 12" (20 1/2" by 16 1/4" framed), signed at lower left "Joyce". The scene with yellow roses and oriental ceramic figure takes after artists such as Hovsep Pushman and others who in the first half of the 20th century favored such props in their still life works. This is evenly soiled, with some browned varnish too. Otherwise condition is good. The white frame shows some wear.

This is a very early work by mr Levier, oil on canvas in a beautiful contemporary linen lined frame measuring 14.5” x 30” Bio: Charles Levier (1920-2003) was born in Corsica to a French father and an American mother. At 17 he attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. During World War II Levier served in the French Army in North Africa, later becoming Liaison Officer with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. Levier’s work is considered Cubist in style...
