Original diptych (deep etch on zinc) by Wendell H. Black (USA, 1919-1972), circa 1961. 12 1/2 by 23 1/2 each. Titled l.l. and numbered 7/25. Signed and dated "Wendell Black 61 by Elaine". From the first edition of this work, printed posthumously by Berkley Chappell, and signed by Black's widow Elaine. No lifetime edition exists. cf: The Lost Works of Wendell H. Old circa 1940's chalk portrait drawing of a young woman with red hair and striking light eyes, 22" by 16" (27" by 20 1/2" framed in green metal strip frame), apparently unsigned. This is one of several drawings I encountered by (I believe) the same artist. Two other drawings were signed, but illegibly, so the identity of the artist is a mystery. I think the paper might have been rolled at one time as under certain raking light conditions one can see soft horizontal, roughly parallel creases...
