An unusual playful piece depicting an owl by one of the most important sōsaku-hang printmakers in the 20th century, Akiyama Iwao 秋山巌 (1921-2014). Best known for his prints, Akiyama Iwao produced paintings even later in his career, as well as occasionally painted on ceramics. Sake cup is sealed by the potter, but seal is obscured by glaze, and Akiyama’s signature and remains unread...

In his book Daniel Tretiak says: “Maki’s kanji prints were normally of one main color against a white or black background. Poem 71-29 below is an exception—and all the more interesting because of it. In this print, Maki has created an abstract Person—the splashes of color show the head, eyes, shoulder, and two legs.” It measures 8.75in W X 12in H and is no. 73 of an edition of 152.

An original poster dating to 1977, 32" by 18 1/2" in present gray metal framing, advertising an exhibition in Phoenix at the Galleria of the downtown Arizona Bank building, of works by two sentinel photographers of the 20th century in the Southwest: Ansel Adams (1902-1984), and Frederick Sommer (1905-1999). Sommer, born in Italy, lived in Prescott, Arizona for much of his life...

After an original painting by the famed Surrealist Belgian-born master artist Rene Magritte (1898-1967), is this print, 1970's, titled "L'Ile au Tresor" ("Treasure Island"), numbered in margin at lower left 199/200 and pencil signed there by Georgette Magritte (1901-1986), the artist's wife of many years; stamped ink Magritte signature at lower right. Measurements are 18 1/2" by 24" inside the mat and 26" by 31" as framed...

During the 1970s, Haku Maki liked occasionally to do haniwa, depictions of terracotta figures that were funerary objects used during the 3rd to 6th centuries in Japan. This one—71-2—is a face rather than a complete figure. Created in 1971, the print is 50 of an edition of 151. It measures 5.75in x 8.5in. The print is in very good condition, with faint tape residue on the two top corners of the back, with no impact on the face.

This larger (19 3/4" by 36") work "GRAVITY -- Commission Ellwood Kieser" dates to the year 1973. The message, reading "gravity-like, He draws us lovingly into that deep dark center which is Himself. Ego dying. Soul reborning. Meaning revealing. Psyche healing. Shackle bursting. Mind spreading. Love empowering. Ellwood E Kieser" is placed in the rich green area. This colorful print is by SISTER MARY CORITA KENT (1918-1986)...

In 1970 quite suddenly Haku Maki started producing truly large prints. They were dramatic and somewhat unexpected, all at least 24in x 24in and extended in size to 35in x 35in. His huge print of a woman is 36in x 72in. All of these were created in 1970. Then no Big ones until Big Mu done in 1973. Then no more huge ones. What happened to Maki? What happened to the supply of paper? This Poem 70-10 is pretty large--17.5in W x 24.5in H--but it was succeeded by others even larger.

Interesting, graphically arresting, colorful original lithograph from 1978, 27" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, protected in simple metal frame and plexiglas (not assembled currently), of a 1978 exhibition at the Museo Espanol de Arte Contemporaneo in Madrid. The upper quarter contains most of the print, the middle is the colorful area, and at bottom in large print is the word "MIRO"...

Original offset lithograph poster for the Tate Gallery, London, 1980 exhibition "Travels with Pen, Pencil and Ink, Drawings and Prints 1961-1979". The exhibition took place from July 2 through August 3, 1980, when Hockney would have been in only his early forties. This poster is very clean and fresh, and attractively framed in brushed silvery metal. There is a little even vertical rumpling of the paper----just enough to prove its earned vintage status at roughly forty years of age...
