PAIR of unframed, unstretched oil on canvas paintings, the larger 20" by 24", the smaller one 17 1/4" by 22", both signed at lower right "Allen H. Newton" and bearing inscriptions on the reverse showing the locations in Andover, Connecticut (east of Hartford, between there and Willimantic in the northeastern part of the state). Both paintings are in need of restoration, since they've been carelessly handled by past owners, including, probably, rolling...

The works definitely seem to have some age as the reverse side of the paper is brown and vintage. I cannot connect these to any particular artist so offer them as decorative mid-century works. The subject is a bearded man wearing a yarmulke. Struck was born in Berlin of Orthodox Jewish parentage...

A late twentieth century abstract work meant to hang on the wall, the extreme dimensions 31" by 35", signed (incised) at left with what appears as (copyright symbol) and then "Bidenor" or "Ridenor" or even "Richards" or similar and dated there 1988, numbered 2 of 50 in Roman numerals. The "Memphis"-looking work is made of relatively heavy pressboard panels subsequently laminated with various surfaces, some dull/matte, one glossy like simulated marble, one like brushed aluminum or stainless steel...

Lithograph on paper, 13 1/4" by 18" inside the mat (20" by 24 1/4" as framed), signed "J Floch" at lower left and numbered "19/50", the subject an interior with two female figures, a table and window at right. This is a beautifully drawn work, showcasing the talents of this artist in lithography. His prints and drawings (see one in my shop) are quite affordable, while paintings have brought to the $80,000 area at auction in Europe and America...

Signed at lower right "PURWADI" and dated just above it 1998, this is a 17" by 14 1/4" work on heavy paper or paper laid on heavy paper, unframed, the subject two Asian women identically dressed, viewed from behind, carrying a heavy load on their heads. This Indonesian contemporary work is by the young, new generation artist DIYANO PURWADI (1971-). Purwadi was born in East Java and schooled there in art. This is an original etching by Reginald Marsh (American 1898-1954)of Minsky's Chorus, the famous Burlesque venue in New York City.
