This Warren Davis etching measures 7 7/8 x 6 inches, pencil signed, label from Kleemann-Thorman Galleries, New York included, c.1928. This delicately rendered etching is a great example of Davis's images of graceful female nudes, many of which were used for Vanity Fair and Life magazines in the very early 1900s.

This 1921 original etching by the British artist, Ernest Lumsden, measures 14 3/8 x 8 1/2 inches, pencil signed, dated in the plate, 1921. Rotherhithe, meaning "a mariner's haven", in southeast London, was the first place that docks were constructed for the convenience of the Londoners.

Edmund Blampied was a very successful artist and illustrator in early 20th century Britain. He illustrated many books and magazines, but is best known for his remarkable skills as a printmaker. This is a fantastic oil on Masonite painting of Columbus landing at the Indian Islands. This painting is signed and dated 1921 by artist Frank Herbert Zeitler of Germany. Zeitler was born in Germany in 1874 and died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 30, 1940. This is an unframed study in pencil by a noted figure in eastern American art, XANTHUS RUSSELL SMITH (1839-1929). The artist, at age 85, signed it with his distinctive "XS" monogram at lower left, and wrote "Painted in oil this size", and dated it Nov. 29- 1924. The sketchbook paper measures 6 5/8" by 9". It would be interesting to pair this with the oil version, in order to gain insight into the artist's artistic process...
