This remarkable and rare work, 25 3/4" by 34" (30 1/2" by 39" in contemporary blue framing behind glass), is titled at lower right "Marseille Le Vieux Port" and is signed there "W. Howard". At first glance one thinks this a print of a Raoul Dufy painting, perhaps an exhibition poster, but upon closer inspection it is seen to be in fact an original watercolor by an obviously highly talented artist. For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online. This drawing is 23" by 17" (28 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), signed at lower left center in the image, by former child actor-turned artist BILLY SEAY (1922-2012). He was one of the biographers of Sascha Brastoff...

Pierre Mas, French born 1933 is a modernist painter. This work with its heavy impasto is quite beautiful. Dan in his modernist style with a painterly impasto.

Oil on board, 18" by 30" (23" by 35" as framed), the scene at dockside in Venice, Italy, gondolas at the ready and figures walking the dock, sun-washed buildings in the background. The painting is signed, though awkwardly, at lower left "Arthur V. Diehl", leading me to think originally that this was by that noted American impressionist painter who died in 1929 (Diehl had created throughout his lifetime, from memory, mostly, Venice scenes, even though he had only visited there as a young man)...
