A Bronze Sculpture "Folded Needle" by Shim Moon Sup(b.1942): Korea, Korean. A Long solid bronze folded sculpture with a green painated and Some broze naive standing in the cylindrical Granite stone base, it's a very long and heavy sculpture by Moon Sup Shim, the ex-owner bought the sculpture directly at the Jin Gallery, Seoul, 1990s. It's in very fine condition without any damages at all. Measurents: 25.5" (65cm) overall. and 55cm x 5cm x 2.5cm bronze only.

Haku Maki did some purely white prints—some had a small splash of color, others had none. This one, 81-3, offers three white plump persimmons. Persimmons were an oft-used subject, sometimes a single depiction of the fruit, sometimes two, but very rarely three persimmons and even more rarely done only in white. The print measures 9.5in W x 10.75in H and is in excellent condition. An edition of 130, this one is number 90.

This is a rather early landscape etching in brown ink, signed at lower right in pencil by the renowned southwestern artist MICHAEL B. COLEMAN (1946-). The work is numbered 20/20 at lower left margin. Judging from the auction record, which shows that oils have exceeded $50,000, the number of etchings by Coleman's hand is apparently rather limited. This one probably dates to early in his career, perhaps the late 1970's or early 1980's. Coleman was born in Utah and still lives there...

The kanji for Peach appears in the uppper right of the print. 17 of 24 Haku Maki was one of the grand masters of the Sosaku-hanga print movement. Maki Haku (1924-2000) is the artistic name of Maejima Tadaaki, who was born in Ibaraki Prefecture. This is an excellently and intricately carved boxwood very charming netsuke,made by the native of Ukraine Alexander Derkachenko. It depicts a seated Okame who is laughing as she holds a large Cucumber. Signed in seal form. Netsuke is stained in tan and brown colors. It measures 1.21 inches (3.1cm) wide, and 1.52 inches (3.8cm) tall. It is in outstanding condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. A wonder lithograph work signed by the artist measuring 30x24 inches. who was born in 1921. He moved to France early in his life. He is one of the most sought after Vietnamese artist today.

In 1981 Haku Maki suddenly produced a modest series of prints with a vinyl (old leather)-like background. I have already written about several of these in my Research Note 8. Now I present another: a striking orange red persimmon with leaves tipped with a special Japanese lacquer and the background in vinyl. This is 81-31 and it is 175/190.

Japanese limited edition woodblock print by Morihiro Sato (b. 1943) depicting white bellflowers. A student of Joichi Hoshi who was influenced by Hoshi's use of metallic pigments, the artist set the flowers and partial moon (or sun) against a metallic background. Depending upon the lighting conditions (see image taken with flash) the background appears either golden or silver. The print is pencil-titled in kanji "Autumn (Bellflowers)" and numbered 3/55 at the lower left...
