Haku Maki was a Japanese print master of the late 20th century. His prints at the time this one was published were strong on the use of kanji and abstract designs, as shown here. In this case; the design is abstract, it shows archaic images which we are trying to understand. The print is large, well designed and carried off. An original watercolor painting, featuring a ceramic geisha, ceramic bird, and poppies in a bowl/vase, apparently unsigned, twentieth century. The work has been faded by sunlight over the years yet remains interesting. Measurements are 9" by 8 1/2" (15 1/2" by 15" in simple wood frame, which has a piece missing at upper extreme left corner). There are reflections at top of several images. There is a fragment of a gallery label on reverse and last letters indicated ".......ati", so I believe this might have Cincinnati, Ohio in its past. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name. The work measures 26" by 22" (29 1/2" by 25" in old appealing gold frame)...

This is a fresh and clean example of the 1956 print "The Four Sisters, Chazalet", one of an edition of only 675 examples, signed in pencil at lower right and bearing an characteristic embossed blind stamp and, in the image, (copyright symbol) "F & R (Frost and Reed) at lower left. The print measures 18" by 24" (26 1/2" by 32" as framed). According to information on the net, Chazalet is a small medieval period town in central France near the famed ceramics town of Limoges...

Confidently attributed to Edward Savage, this miniature portrait is painted on organic material. The sitter, who has a strong countenance and blue eyes, is wearing a deep blue coat with gold buttons, a white vest and shirt, and a white cravat.

The painting is in excellent condition, with no flaws, and is housed in a gilt copper case, the reverse of which has a glazed aperture containing woven plaits of hair...

A beautiful colored Japanese woodblock print measuring 12x16 inches and in bright colors

By the highly important German impressionist and expressionist artist LOVIS CORINTH (1858-1925) is this rare lithograph of 1921/1922, "Die Markgrafin von Bayreuth" (translating as "Countess of Bayreuth"). In 1960 Maki did the image shown. It is called Symbol. In all the years of collecting Maki prints and images I have never seen this one again. It is quite large but seems cluttered. Forty years later he did it as a print and a post card even as one friend has suggested he did the print before 1999, the date on the print. The seals are authentic not printed, and they are original Maki seals from well-used chops.
