Watercolor on paper, 12 1/2" by 18 1/4" inside the present mat, 19 1/2" by 26" as framed, signed "TOWNLEY" at lower right corner and dated there "Oct. 68". I do not see a listing that would match up with this name but the artist was obviously a talented individual. This appears to be a mountain landscape in one of the western states. The trees and the animals are beautifully executed, and there is a superb little ink drawing of a fox near the signature...

Bio: Joseph William Dawley (1936-2008) was born in Nashville, Arkansas and raised in Dallas, Texas. He received his B.A. from SMU where some of his art hangs today. He married and moved to NJ where Joe worked for the Newark Evening News retouching photos and sidelining as a political cartoonist. In the late 1960's Joe created a daily comic strip which was syndicated and distributed nationwide as "The Chief"...

An old watercolor on paper laid on board painting of old buildings, with a view to open water beyond the narrow lane. The work is signed with initials "MC" or "ME" at lower left but there is no other information. The watercolor measures 11 1/2" by 9" inside the mat and 18 1/2" by 16" as framed. There is old wood slat backing remaining. This might well be a scene of old England, perhaps Cornwall, but it is really hard to say more as to the locale portrayed...

Late 19th century alabaster statue of a lovely maiden. With her arms outstretched she studying a small bump on her finger. Probably Italian, condition is very good with some minor old dings expected with age, but most notable is a large chip on the back side of the base (see last photo). The price has been adjusted accordingly. Having a wonderful patina that only comes with time, this beauty measures about 18 inches high.
