A rather elegant landscape painting with a modern feeling, the predominating colors subdued yet elegant grays and earth tones, signed rather illegibly with a European hand at lower right corner and dated there 53. The unframed work on canvas measures 23 1/2" by 31 1/2". Signature looks something like "Oltarini" or "Ott....." or "Ult....." but despite years of trying to figure this out I have not succeeded...

A framed woodblock print by the hand of one of the masters of 20th century Japanese printmaking, 8 1/2" by 11 1/4" inside the existing mat, 15" by 18" framed, signed in pencil by the artist at lower right and numbered 43/120 at lower left margin in pencil. The image is of a nighttime snowfall in front of a traditional Japanese structure. Sekino was creating art before age 20. He knew Shiko Munakata, the famous printmaker, while still young, as they were from the same area...

A finely worked original pastel of a Native American girl dancing in an interior defined by an arch, the work signed at lower left by artist CARLOS FREY (1938-). The piece is in remarkable condition, bearing framing label from Nebraska stating that it was framed to museum standards. Frey has a website outlining his long career in the arts. He works in many media, including photography, and sells originals and various types of reproductions of his works...

Watercolor on paper of shrimp trawlers in a harbor, 18" by 24" and about 3" of mat and frame on a side, signed at lower left "R. Hal Burriss". This is a clean, fresh watercolor by a noted American artist associated with Florida and Louisiana. The work reminds a bit of that of Rolland Golden, a popular New Orleans, Louisiana artist who often worked in watercolor, depicting similar subject matter...

Oil on canvas painting, 16" by 20" (21" by 25" framed), the scene a California desert landscape, painted by the noted artist KATHI HILTON (1939-2021) in the year 1993. The artist has signed in the wet paint at lower right, and on the reverse, she wrote "To Lenore Hudson/Painted at Ebell Club/Feb. 1993/May the joy of the desert allure bloom in your heart {I believe that is what the last line reads, not certain}/Best always/Kathi Hilton"...

Oversized limited-edition Japanese woodblock print by Joshua Rome (b. 1953) titled “Fuyu no Hi (Winter's Day)” dated 2/15/1981. The bottom margin is titled, dated, numbered 30/100 and signed in pencil. The artist's red seal is beside the signature. Paper: 9" x 24 5/8" (image: 6 11/16” x 21 5/8"). Very good overall condition. The print is very lightly sunstruck and there are tiny brown spots about the size of the tip of a pin scattered throughout the paper.

Found in far northern Vermont in the course of an art buying trip some years ago, is this unframed 20" by 16" oil on canvas portrait of a man, apparently signed "Shoelman" at lower right and signed again and dated on the reverse (possibly, 1806, though, more likely, 1846, considering the style---the digit likely a "4"). I acquired the painting near Cambridge/Jeffersonville not far from the Canadian border...

This is an engraving of the year 1821, measuring 13" by 10 1/2" (23" by 20" framed), formerly thought to depict Jeanne d'Aragon but now believed to be Dona Isabel de Requesens y Enriques de Cardon-Anglesona, the image developed by Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831), engraved by Raphael Morghen (1758-1833), after a circa 1500 painting with elements by Raphael Sanzio and Giulio Romano...

An image of Mohatma Gandhi after the original 1965 now scarce, low-edition serigraph print by Shahn, , reproduced here on a magazine page, and signed and inscribed in faded ballpoint pen at lower left by the well-known American Social Realist artist, BEN SHAHN (1898-1969). Oil on pine wood panel, 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" (11" by 13" in old frame), unsigned, the subject figures in a clearing surrounded by feathery trees, a tiny brush stroke also indicating the presence of a scampering dog accompanying the small party. A charming old antique work in the Hudson River tradition; disappointing not to have found a signature, but I would think the artist listed. The painting has normal old light soiling, and the frame has some edge chips missing in a few places...

Pastel on paper, 21 1/2" by 16" and narrow frame, signed at lower right by well listed WAYNE LA COM (1922-). La Com is known for his skilled watercolors in the 20th century California Scene style. See the askart listing on him and his work. Photos taken at angles to minimize reflections.

Painting signed Fang Zhaoling , (yes this is an emulation), dimensions are 85cm x51cm , with mounting L:225cm/88in and W:73cm/28.8in. Fang Zhaoling (Chinese: 方召麐, 17 January 1914 – 20 February 2006), also known as Lydia Fong, was a Chinese painter and calligrapher. She a led fascinating and turbulent life eventually settling in Hong Kong in 1948. Her daughter Anson Chan. The painting is well mounted on a traditional scroll.

An oil on Masonite painting of a red roofed mill with the mill pond in the foreground and a barn against a hill in the distance. Painted in an unusual palette that includes lavender. I have been unable to find a listing for the artist. In a new frame. 10 by 12 inches, with frame 12.5 by 14.5 inches.

Condition: excellent.

Though it is difficult to date, I suspect it is from the middle of the 20th century and most likely to be American.

Richly impressionistic painting on canvas of a small pond surrounded by autumn foliage, 9" by 12" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right by contemporary California-based artist RON McKEE (1931-) and dedicated on the stretcher and dated there 1987. McKee is a popular impressionist, his body of work including landscape, coastals, floral gardens and European Mediterranean ports. This work is fresh and clean and absolutely wall-ready in its gold framing...
