A watercolor of the year 2006, signed "Rogers", featuring a close-up architectural view of the upper part of a church or cathedral. The spires and domes kind of resemble a famous church in Venice, Italy, though the scene could be almost anywhere in southern Europe or Latin America. The unframed work measures 6 5/8" by 11 1/2" inside the dark blue over-mat. That mat has a little wear but could be retained if you just want to frame over it for a smaller opening.

Found in eastern Maine, a fine old still life pastel, the image including an orange, dark blue grapes, a walnut in the shell, and a metal vessel. At lower right are the words "GOOD SHEPHERD BAY VIEW" (???), but no signature. Circa 1900 date of execution judging from frame, which is dark stained walnut with gilt inner fillet. Size 9 1/4" by 12 3/4" (13" by 16 1/2" framed). Allow for a few reflections and some dust on the glass.

This is a very nicely executed decorative impressionistic painting of a pond in spring within a groomed park-like setting, complete with mini-island with pagoda type rock formation, all surrounded by flowering springtime trees. There might even be orange koi fish in the pond. The painting, most likely American in origin, is oil on canvas laid on board. It is signed at lower right but I cannot seem to make it out. Size is 12" by 16", unframed...

Esther Anna Hunt (1875-1951) is known today in California art circles as a keen observer of the traditional culture as displayed in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her paintings and plaster bust models of young girls in traditional costume make regular appearances in auctions of California art. This work appears to have been created by one of Hunt's many early 20th century imitators. The watercolor is signed at lower right corner "A. Fowler" and is dated there April 1912...

Complete original portfolio of etchings by Hirst Dillon Milhollen (American, Virginia, 1906-1970), complete and in excellent original condition, dated 1937. This portfolio contains 10 etchings of Haiti (plus one attached to the portfolio cover) and is number 24 out of fifty sets. All the etchings are pencil signed and titled by the artist. Attractive old antique print titled "Public landing. Cincinnati", identified by writing on backing as having come from Ballou's Pictorial Companion, 1855. measuring 11" by 15" in its old dark (probably stained walnut) frame with gold fillet. Condition appears fresh and excellent overall. The coloring is hand-applied. An interesting addition to your historic Ohio River or Cincinnati home or office.

Oil on canvas laid on masonite, 10 3/4" by 14", unframed, signed at lower left with what appears to be the name "Jens Oyme". I have not found a listing for such a name, even when varying the letters a bit. So, this is offered as a nice decorative work showing a peaceful deep fjord probably on the west coast of Norway, a small structure at right. The reflection in the water is probably the most skillfully painted area...

A small etching, 5 1/4" by 4" (13 1/2" by 10 1/2" in wood frame) featuring the famous familiar front view of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the foreground including the famous bookstalls and a number of figures, signed in the plate (in reverse) "Slanska" and with penciled "Eau-fort original/Slanska" in the lower margin. The name seems to be of Czech origin, and I have not located information on the artist. There is evidence of very slight hand coloring in blue, yellow and pink...

Watercolor painting of a harbor scene in New England, 12 3/4" by 18 3/4" inside the mat, 20 1/4" by 26 1/4" in silvery metal framing, signed at lower left in red "J. Stephenson" and dated there '77. This is likely a scene of Maine or Massachusetts, judging from the lobster traps at left on the dock. The artist does not seem to be listed but I have seen other similar works by this hand while traveling in New England...

Large size (39" by 27 1/2" framed) pastel of hollyhocks in bloom, apparently unsigned, drawn on canvas. The work probably dates to the first third of the 20th century, when the flower was more popular and more commonly planted around houses. Most pastels are on paper, so a work on canvas is more unusual. Due to the size and the glass, a local Southern California buyer would be very welcomed. Except for a small bit of contact with the glass, the drawing is in fine condition.

Fine etching of windmills in a landscape in a brownish-black ink, 9" by 11" (14 1/2" by 16 3/4`" framed), pencil signed at lower right by listed artist DIRK BAKSTEEN (1886-1971). The quality of the work is excellent, reminding the viewer of Rembrandt and other better known artists, though Baksteen is a somewhat obscure figure today. Born in Rotterdam and educated in art there at the academy, by 1912 he was in Mol, Belgium, becoming part of the "School of Mol" landscape artists...

A circa 1940's restrike print of the popular ice skating scene from "American Winter Scenes" series, measuring 17" by 23 3/4" inside the mat and 23 3/4" by 30 1/2" framed. The title was evidently cut off from central bottom portion at one point and was then affixed to reverse side. Coloring is in the print most likely and not hand coloring.
