Executed actually by a listed California painter who apparently traveled extensively, JOHN W. NICOLL (1865-1943), this work, 9" by 13" as framed, is a painting of marine scenery of the isolated island archipelago of Bermuda in the sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean. It is signed at lower right by the artist and titled "Bermuda", and on the frame in old handwriting is written "Coral Rocks Bermuda"...

A nice c1814 example of a Frederick Buck miniature of a woman in a blue dress. The backing of the mini has "Caroline ??? 1814". Presented in what might be the original frame, which measures 4 3/4" by 4 1/8". The sight size is 2 3/4" by 2 1/8". Excellent condition.

Watercolor on heavy paper, 6 1/4" by 9", (9" by 11" as framed), unsigned, the subject a marble Parthenon-like classical ruined temple at right, several picturesquely dressed figures in the right foreground, and a cypress tree at left framing the scene. I would guess the age as circa mid 19th century. Unfortunately there is no signature nor other hint as to authorship...

Two paintings are offered here for the price of one! The first done in India ink on prepared cardboard, this finely limned profile shows a man facing left with his right hand tucked into his jacket. It is presented in a gilded, stamped sheet metal frame.

A striking and colorful R. Mills miniature portrait of a blue-eyed blonde woman. The subject is wearing a white gown with lace edging and balloon sleeves, a blue necklace and sash belt. An impressionistic watercolor painting of a tree and brushy field, 9" by 8" (13" by 12" in wood frame), signed at lower left and dated there 1929 by artist EMMY LOU OSBORNE. I do not see biographical information on the artist but clearly she was a talented watercolorist. Condition is excellent.
