One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) not many with any color, this is a fine image in soft pencil and a little color crayon on paper, the drawing itself 12" by 18 3/4", in an oak frame without mat, signed at lower left by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

The painting I think if American and looks to date to circa 1940's or early 1950's at the latest. There is no apparent biography for an artist matching this name, but he or she was clearly talented...

The print measures 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" inside the mat and 16 3/4" by 14 3/4" framed. Subject is the story of Susannah and the Elders, from the Bible's Book of Daniel. This has been interpreted by countless artists over the centuries. Our artist is Giacomo Picollo (1905-1988). Picollo created a number of watercolor landscapes which appear at auction...

Antique watercolor painting of familiar Venice, Italy scene with gondolas, and historic buildings lining the canal, luminous reflections completing the image. The drawing measures 9" by 13 1/4" (15 3/4" by 20 3/4" framed). It is signed at lower left "G Marini". Condition is excellent. The drawing was likely created for the tourist trade in Venice in the early years of the century.

This is a fine print on a puckery, soft, Japan-like very delicate paper, the image featuring an obviously Orientalist figure and a greyhound-like dog. The print is after the original 1865 painting by the artist, that painting having been offered at Sotheby's auction in 2009. JEAN LEON GEROME (1824-1904) was a major French academic painter and sculptor and educator of legions of artists in the 19th century in France. Today his historical subject and Orientalist works sell into the millions ...

This fine old work (9" by 20", 19 1/2" by 31" framed/matted, no glass) is a coastal scene including both steam and sail vessels on the horizon, as well as a shipwreck on the rocks at right, signed lower right and dated there 1888 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910)...

Impressionistic oil on board painting of an early 20th century American house, probably in the Midwest as this was framed in Missouri, 11 1/2" by 15 1/2" (14" by 18" framed). The scene is one of tranquility and prosperity. The house would have probably dated to about 1920, but the painting is contemporary. The signature appears as possibly "Ursula Lee". This is ready for the wall.

Oil on canvas laid on board landscape of a river in a mountainous scene including a few picturesque structures, signed with initials "LJGC" at lower left, and dated there 1904. There is a high likelihood that the artist who created this attractive painting was from mountainous Wales in the British Isles, as I have seen another painting online, identically signed, dated 1914, the scene depicted in that example given as the River Wye in Wales...

Watercolor and gouache painting of purple and white lilacs in a vase, unsigned, 12" by 9 1/4" (17" by 14" in pleasant quality antiqued frame with imitation wormholes). The work is laid down on a board. Colors are fresh and the piece is ready for the wall.

Oil on old gray art board painting of a pirate swashbuckler in the 17th century, 15" by 10" (23" by 18" framed), unsigned, executed in the earlier 20th century style of N. C. Wyeth. This work might have been created circa 1920 or so as an illustration to a book perhaps. The image would be a fine addition to a young boy's room. Condition is excellent save for a few small losses, one at center left (appearing as blue spot) and a loss in the figure's pants (light blue area at bottom).

Etching on delicate Japan paper, 13 3/4" by 10 1/2" inside the mat (20" by 15 1/2" framed) signed in the plate at lower right by the important 19th century French etcher, CHARLES MERYON (1821-1868). There are modern-day notations on the framing paper: "....Casimir Le Comte after Gustave Boulanger, 2nd state, 1856, and "from Kennedy & Co." Meryon was born in Paris to an English physician father and French dancer mother...

Oil on canvas landscape of a busy scene I believe to be along the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia, 13" by 25" as framed in narrow blond ash, signed at lower right by Torpedo Art Center artist ANNE B. LANDRY. Some internet research enabled me to identify the artist. Landry is a New Orleans native and graduate of Newcomb Art School at Tulane there, who after some time in the corporate world in New York elected to move to the Washington, D.C...

Indonesian drawing of three seated figures conversing at a marketplace, three white chickens offered up for sale, painted circa late 1950's or early 1960's I believe, apparently unsigned, 12" by 16 1/4" inside the mat, 17" by 21 1/4" as framed. There is an old Rotterdam, Netherlands framer's sticker on the reverse. The art somewhat reminds of the work of the important Dutch/Indonesian master artist Rudolf Bonnet (1895-1978) but I do not believe the work by him...

**FOUR** pencil signed, numbered color etchings of Parisian scenes, by the well-known, widely honored and sought after artist, ANDRE HAMBOURG (1909-1999). The matching set of prints, each numbered in Roman numerals V/XX (5 of edition of only 20), measure 12 1/4" by 9 1/4" inside the mat openings, and THREE are framed, one unframed (the framed ones including the frame measuring 18" by 14"). The prints likely date to the 1960's or 1970's. Hambourg was born in Paris...
